CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALS.
D.-Course in Christian Evidences. The several schools of
modern thought are considered in their history, their values, and
their relation to Christianity. The place of the Supernatural and
the mission of Jesus are studied. The place and power of Christianity
is noted. The moral value of faith and the Christian virtues
is considered, and the content of Christian experience is inductively
evaluated. The essentials or fundamentals of the Christian
faith are pointed out. Three hours a week.
E.-The Canon and the Text. A more advanced course than
Introduction C. The Problems of historical criticism are dealt
with. The date and authorship of books of the Old Testament
are discussed during the first month. Some attention is given
the extra-biblical books. The main consideration falls on the
rise of the New Testament prophets and their work in the making
of the New Covenant Scriptures. The process by which their
writings came to be placed beside the Old Testament writings as
holy scriptures is fully studied. Gregory's text is made the basis.
Three hours a week.
F.-Inspiration, Revelation, and Symbolics. The problems
and method are studied. The position of the Bible as compared
with other great literature is pointed out. The leading symbols
and dogmas will be studied in their relation to the problem of
authority in religious life. The personal and social elements are
considered fundamentally as they have a bearing on the progress
of the Kingdom of God. Three hours a week.
THEOLOGY.
BIBLICAL.
A.-In this course the fall term studies are in the Old Testament.
Preliminary study is followed by consideration of the Old
Testament conception of God. the divine Name, divine attributes,
Man sin, and redemption. The place of the priesthood, the problem
of good and evil, eschatology, Messianic ideas, immortality,
and the meaning of death are studied. Davidson's text is the
basis. Two hours.
