amount of reading in mythological and historical stories of
Roman history. Prerequisite Latin 115 or its equivalent.

135. Syntax and Reading. A continuation of Latin 125,
but independent credit given. Prerequisite Latin 125 or
equivalent. Text: Junior Latin Reader, Sanford and Scott.
142.-Roman Life. A study of the public and private life
of the Romans and of their institutions and customs. This
course is open to students regardless of their knowledge of
Latin. It is valuable to students of history.
215.-Cicero's Orations. Translation supplemented by a
study of the political conditions of that time. Latin composition.225.-Cicero's selected Letters or Essays. The Letters are
read mainly for their value in showing the political conditions
and the relationships to the closing years of the Republic.
235.-Virgil's Aeneid. Books I to IV or an equivalent
number of books. In this course the prosody of dactylic
hexameter, the poet's language and style, and classical mythology
will be studied.
245.-New Testament and Psalms. A careful reading of
selections from the New Testament and Psalms in Latin translation.
Memory work required.
315.-Livy. Book I and selections from Books XXI and
XXII. Pliny's Letters may be substituted for some of Livy.
A study of Roman life.
325.-Horace's Odes and Epodes. Study of versification
and prosody of lyric poems.
335.-Tacitus. Germania, Agricola, and Dialogus de Oratoribus
are read in class.
343.-A course in teaching Latin in the secondary schools,
designed to be of special benefit to those who anticipate work_.___
