HISTORY
Abilene Christian College opened its door for the first time in
September 1906. Under the presidency of A. B. Barret between
seventy-five and a hundred students were enrolled during this session.
From this time its growth was slow, but rather constant,
impeded somewhat by the abnormal economic conditions and
other unavoidable misfortunes. One of the outstanding hindrances
to its growth was the frequent change in the management and
administration. Fortunately for the institution, in the spring
of 1912 Brother Jesse P. Sewell and his good wife accepted
this great service. From that time the school has had a most
wonderful growth. Within a period of seven years it grew from
a rather inferior academy to a standard Senior college.

and in the heart of a fine agricultural, stock raising and industrial
belt. It is the largest and most important trade center not only
in Taylor county, but in that large section of the state known and
in a general way described as Central Texas. It is a religious
town, a school town, a town that seeks only good citizens. It is
one of the cleanest cities in Texas, physically and morally. It
has all the modern conveniences of the city without its usual
vices and detracting influences. It is a high, healthful location,
almost entirely free from malaria, and with an abundance of sunshine
the year around. Students, without doubt have better health,15
