SESSION OF 1918-'19
Second Year-Course A.-Hermeneutics and Exegesis; The Principles
of Interpretation will be studied the first term; in the second
and third terms the class will apply these principles in the exegetical
analysis of selected epistles and other portions of the Bible. Three
hours a week.
Lockhart's Principles of Interpretation; Grubb's Exegetical Analysis
of the Epistles.
Second Year-Course B.-Homiletics; Preparation and Delivery
of Sermons (Broadus' text) during first term; History of Preaching
(Dargan's text), Green's Normal Evangelism, and Jesus as a Preacher,
the second term; Psychology and Preaching, discussion of sermon
outlines prepared by members of the class during the third term.
Three hours a week.
Third Year-Course A.-Topical Study of the Bible. This course
covers almost the entire Bible; it embraces the teachings of God on
the great subjects dealt with in the Bible. Davidson's text book is
used as a basis for the Old Testament and S'teven's for the New Testament.
Three hours a week.
Third Year-Course B.-Christian Doctrine. This course is designed
to present God's Plan of Redemption with its allied doctrines;
Milligan's Scheme of Redemption and Mullins' Christian Religion in
its Doctrinal Expression will be used as text books during the first
and second terms; Campbell's Christian System will be used as a
basis for class room work during the third term. Church organization,
ordinances, ceremonies and ministrations will be carefully studied.
Three hours a week.
Fourth Year-Course A.-Christian Sociology. The fundamental
principles of Sociology and Ethics are taught and discussed, and the
social theories and practical policies of Sociology are considered in
their relation to the Church of Jesus Christ.
Fourth Year,-Course B.--Christian Pedagogy. This course is
given as the more practical side of training men and women who
may do personal work or teach Bible classes in the congregations, in
missions, or in the homes; conduct Bible readings and in other ways do
church work. It is supplemented by the regular courses in psychology
and pedagogy as offered in our college. The course is open to all but
it is best to take it at the close of the school work. Pupils, lessons,
grading, equipment, and methods of teaching will have consideration.
Actual practice will be had. A number of small text books will be
used. A history of the "Sunday School" movement will be sketched,
and the vices and virtues will be pointed out. About the close of the
year a study in soul-winning, or personal work will be made. This
course shows how to teach a Bible lesson, how to enlist both students
and parents, how to have Bible study in the home, how to do regular
and departmental work in the congregation and how to do personal
work with the wayward and lost. Three hours a week.
N. B.-This course is offered by mail to those who are unable to
attend school but who are desirous of becoming more proficient and
useful in the church of the living God.41
