I Mrs Gray lays claim to being
the first white woman settler in
the territory now comprising
Swisher county She and Mr Gray
came to Swisher county in 18S7
and settled about four miles west
of what is now Tulia when they
lived in a dugout for several years
while tho young cowboy caied for

They finally saved enough money
to buy a small herd of their own
and later their own small ranch
wheie they lived on Title Creel
Here their children were born and
reared and tho family lived and
prospered until cattle prices i cached
the bottom just following the

their undoing in a financial way

and they have lived in Tulia since
that time

two children Nuto Gray and Mrs
Mamie Cochran uoth of Amarillo
and a number of grand children
