DON'T LET THE FLU
MAKE YOU BLUE
>
You know when flu
season is here again, it
seems everybody you talk
to has it, or just got it!
"There's always more
flu this time of year,"
confirmed Elma Jean, a
Chicago area pharmacist
with Walgreens, the
natiowide drugstore
chain. "1 can't tell you
how many people come
into our store coughing
and sneezing, with watery
eyes, chills, headaches
and muscle aches. Flu
makes you lose your
appetite and feel weak. It
also lowers your
resistance to other
illnesses".
Those are the classic
influenza symptoms,
ahich are sometirries hard
to tell from those caused
by colds. Flu usually
begins swiftlv and
.severely while fever
colds generally don't. Yet
another type of flu,
intestinal or stomach flu,
causes diarrhea, stomach
cramps and vomiting.
Colds, influenza and
stomach flu . are caused
by entirely different
infectious viruses.
Influenza results from a
specific family of viruese
- types A, B or C. Within
each type are several
strains that differ slightly
from each other; each
can be prevented with a
specific vaccine.
New vaccines are
recommended for people
with chronic heart or
lung disease, diabetes,
and those over age 63.
thanks for extending
them the pleasure of
attending Diane's
debutante reception.
The blazing logs of
colorful amber tones set
in a french style
fireplace brought warmth,
love and joy to those who
entered vibrating the
happy sentiments of the
Hannahs. Upon entering
the Gallery section,
guests were registered by
Pal and State Rep.
Karyne Conley and Mrs.
Doris Jennings. . Then
being greeted by Mrs. T..
Bernice Evans, head
hostess for , the evening,
guests were directed to
the receiving line with
introductions being made
by Mr. and Mrs. Isadore
Hannah, Diane, Pal Mrs.
Priscilla Armstead,
sponsor, Mrs. Gloria
McGowan, President of
the Pals and Mr. Eddie
Harris, President of the
Van Courtlands. The line
ended with the rest of
the 1989 Debutante
Coterie with-
introductions being made
by Pal ✓ Mrs. Valerie
Thompson.
Guests were then
directed into an elegant
setting fit for a princess.
Hurricane lamps with
alternating red and white
candle light rested in the
center of each table
surrounded with
decorative gold flicks and
crystal snow flakes.
Clusters of holly were
sprinkled about to add
just the right touch o(
greenery while the gold
punchnello ribbon
completed the color
scheme. Chandeliers with
red bows and [ingle bell
streamers provided the
over head glamor of the
room. Even the gift table'
was dressed for the
evening embellished with
the full flow of closet
plant leaves wrapped and
tucked with antique lace
and gold tis lamaze. The
richness of simple
eloquence and classic
traditional designs used
to create the flavor of
the season was under the
diiection of Diane's aunt,
Mrs. Beianca Johnson,
Houston, Tx.
As the evening
progressed and guests
enjoyed the festivities,
hors d'oeuvres and
socializing, Mr. Hannah
asked all to join him in a
toast to his daughter,
Diane.
Other hostesses for the
evening were Pal Mrs.
Alice llines, Pal Mrs.
Ruth Green, Pal Mrs.
Joyce Sowells, Mrs. Zella
Rainey, Ms. Sharon
Mk heals, Houston, Tx.,
Mri. Ann Brady, Mrs.
Jean Parker and Mrs.
Mildred Wilson:' Mrs.
Sharldtte ledge,
