Young Cass and Marion
county men who register late
for selective service may face
faster induction in the future.
Local Board No. 17 in Lin-
den, which has jurisdiction in
the two counties, announced
a "get tough" policy regard-
ing men who register late for
the draft.
The policy was established
after a board survey deter-
mined that 65 youths had reg-
istered late in the past six
months.
Federal law requires that
yo*;5,?Jnen register with the
n^Tfm ^raft board on their
181.^j|)irthday or within five
days thereafter.
Under the new policy, all
young men who register a
week or more late will be re-
quired to submit a statement
in writing to explain their
tardiness, officials said, and
may be required to appear be-
fore the board in person.
The board will give formal
official consideration to de-
claring these men delinquent
under the law and processing
them for armed forces induc-
tion ahead of other men in
CORNETT
their age group.
Registrars in Cass county
are Mrs. Margaret Tolleson of
McLeod, Truitt Ingram of At-
lanta, Chester M. Williamson
of Hughes Springs, and Mrs.
Alva B. McCoy, clerk, and
Mrs. Mollie E. Barker of Lin-
den.

The Rev. Grounds brought
a very informative message
from 119th Psalms. He read
verses 97-112 and chose the
105 verse for his text, "Thy
word is a light unto my path
and a lamp unto my feet." The
title was "Wonderfulness of
the Bible."
A fine attendance turned
out to church even though the
v/eather was very brisk.
Our congratulations to the
G. T. Cornelt family for (he
beautiful communion table
cross that completes the altar
furnishings at the Methodist
Church. The fine bronze cross
was selected by Mrs. Frances
Cornett Hough of Dallas, and
placed in the church in honor
of the G. T. Cornett family.
Many thanks to this family
from the church.
