Morris named outstanding merit student
Principal Don Brown of Atlanta
High School has announced that
Diane Morris has been named a
commended student in the National
Merit Scholarship Program. A letter
of commendation from the school
and National Merit Scholarship Cor-
poration, which conducts the
program, will be presented to this
outstanding student.
About 35,000 commended stu-
dents nationwide are being honored
for their outstanding performance
on the 1989 PSAT/NMSQT, which
places them in the top 5 percent of
more than one million students who
entered the 1991 merit program by
taking the qualifying test. Com-
mended students scored slightly
below the level required to continue
in the 1991 competition for merit
scholarships, but they have shown
exceptional academic promise.
An official of the merit program
stated, "Being named a com-
mended student in this extremely
competitive program is a credit to
these young people and their
schools. Commended students
were offered an opportunity to be
referred by the merit program to two
colleges or universities of their
choice.
