and now an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of ."
Texas to which position he was appointed by Gover-
nor Ferguson in May. 1015 was born in Hickman .
County Kentucky aitd at the aje of fifteen years re-
moved with his parents to Collin County Texae where
he resided a.t the" time of his admission to the bar at
McKInncy in that county.
Shortly after beins admitted to the bar he moved to
Sweetwater the county seat of Nolan County Texas
and encaged In the practice of law at that place and
iSurrounding counties until his removal to Waco la .
.1893 where he was actively -engaged in the practice
of law at the time of his appointment to the Supreme
Court of Texas.
In Judge Yantis was elected as a member of
the State Senate from the Eleventh Senatorial Dis-
trict and served his constituents with fidelity and
ability as Senator for one term after which he was
appointed Assistant Attorney General of Texas by
Governor Lanham. His service In this important posi-.
tion as attorney for the State in all cases coming be-
fore tho Court of Criminal Appeals was at all times
characterized by an earnest purpose to ald.ln the prop-
er enforcement of tho criminal laws of the State and
