Newman files for council Place 3
David Newman has filed for
Place 3 on the Sachse City Council.
He will run against incumbent Jim
Burnett in the May 7th e'.-ction.
Newman is president/CEO of
Inex Worldwide. He moved to
Sachse in 2001
"The next few years offer the
city unique opportunities that will
shape our future." Newman said.
"As a member of the council. I w ill
bring decisive leadership that is not
afraid to make the hard decisions,
while acknowledging the commit-
ment of those who brought us to
where we are now.
Working in conjunction with the
city staff. I will strive to unify this
council, and our city."
Newman graduated from
Sherman High School and attended
Grayson County College and Texas
A&M, Commerce.
"1 hope to bring a spirit of com-
promise to this council. We obvi-
ously need to focus on keeping our
taxes low, while improving the ser-
vices that are provided to our citi-
zens." New man said.
"As we grow, we need to
embrace new leadership with new
ideas. Rather than special interests,
my ability to look at the "big pic-
ture" of what's best for Sachse will
lead to positive grow th in our com-
munity."
He is vice-chairman of the
President George Bush Tax
Increment Financing Board, a
member of the Sachse Chamber of
Commerce and the DFW Minority
Business Development Council.
"In general the city is being man-
aged well; but we all can see areas
that need some special attention
and could be enhanced through
stronger leadership." Newman said
"Sachse is our home and my
family is committed to this commu-
nity because we are involved spiri-
tually. physically, and economical-
ly. Not only do I live here, but I also
have my business here."
Newman and his wife, Sherry,
attend the Lavon Drive Baptist
Church in Garland and have a
daughter. Courtnie, and a son,
Preston.
The general election is scheduled
for May 7.

"We were operating an animal
shelter out of a small outdated facili-
ty next to the Fire Department on
Hwy. 78." Police Chief Richard
Benedict said. "That shelter had four
dog runs and just one cat room "
The new facility will allow the
shelter to jxpand to nine dog runs
and two rooms for cats.
"The new shelter allows for
expanded quarantine capacity as well
as increasing the total carrying
capacity for cats and dogs," Benedict
said.
Benedict said he feels they will
now be able to expand programming
and hold animals longer to increase
the adoption rates.
The public will see no change in
operations as they expand into the
new facility this week, he said.
"We really needed the new shelter
as the old facilitv was hard on the
animals and the employees,"
Benedict said. "The new shelter will
meet the current needs of the city ."
The completion of this renovation
phase will see the addition of exteri-
or dog runs, landscaping and perime-
ter fencing.
"The project began in 2003 with
the initial renovation of a 40' x 80'
steel building," Benedict said. "Phase
I consisted of administrative offices a
cat room and quarantine and an
employee break room. Phase II
began a year later with the addition
of dog kennels, a workroom and
exterior stucco."
Completion of Phase III is expect-
ed by the beginning of May.
"The members of the Animal
Shelter Advisory Board and the
Animal Shelter Advisory Committee
worked very hard on this project."
Benedict said. 'The new shelter is
the successful results of their
efforts."

"I will focus on the assumptions
that immigration is an unstoppable
force and foreign workers are essen-
tial because there is work that sim-
ply cannot be done without them."
Knkorian said. "I will also explore
the opinion that the federal govern-

the problem of illegal immigration
and would probably encourage more
of it.
'To say that there are jobs that
Americans won't do or that in the
absence of illegal aliens the work
won't get done is ridiculous," he
said.
"If the supply of immigrant work-
ers was reduced and the labor market
tightened, employers would start
offering more money and better ben-
efits tS attract the workers who are
around and some of those jobs
would be eliminated through more
efficient mechanization."
Krikorian also refuted the
assumption that guest workers will
actually return home after the initial
renewal period.
"Every example in human history
has show n that to be false, because
there is nothing more permanent
than a temporary worker." he said.
"You let someone live here for six
years, bring his family, his children
will be born here and be citizens
automatically because the While
House explicitly said they weren't
calling for a change in our citizen-
ship rules, and we're going to expect
them to leave after six years?"
Krikorian ended his presentation
by saying that none of the common-
ly held assumptions underlying sup-
port for a guest worker program is
valid.
His answer is to enforce the laws
already in place and support the
immigration authorities and border
patrols.
"Mr. Krikorian was brilliant, and
his accurate presentation of the real
immigration picture was most
enlightening," Sachse Republican
Club President Paul Head said.
