AH the wheat and oats sowed dur-
ing October in this vicinity have al-
ready sprouted high enough for pas-
turing of the plants In most fields,
but the acreage will hardly amount
to 10 per cent of the urea of last
year's planting. Many farmers who
had hundreds ot acres in small grain
last year have sowed none whatever
this fall, but the reason is due more
to the scarcity of seed grain than
to any tear of another green bug out-
break. Parties who purchased a car
load ol seed wheat in Kansas found,
the grain unfit foi nee! when ir ar-
rived on account of heating of ih>
grain In transit. No green bugs
have been detected yet in any ol ihi-
ttelds so far Inspected bv myself as
field assistant. In charge of the green
hug laboratory located near here,
and I have been keeping a sharp
lookoui. Every rumor of the occur-
rence of green bugs so far investigat-
ed by lite has proven false. The last
green bug -e"ti in the fields in this
neighborhood was observed last
June just before harvest time. The
prospect of freedom from green bug
attacks on the growing crops appears
encouraging, so that any trouble
from the pests is not anticipated.
