cracked against the hard wood. He knew.
"Go ahead and report me!" she said. "I
was going to return the clothes. I really was. But
then you took my picture after I just got fired by
the greatest French photographer of all time, so
I flipped out..." She hurled a beer bottle across
the room. "Did you know what that bastard
said to me? He said, 'You look like an old hag.
Tired, saggy. Your arms are like a fat forty-year-
old woman.' I'm twenty-two years old! I'm not
supposed to be too old looking to model!" Despite
her best efforts, blue and red eyeshadow dribbled
down her cheek and smeared on her hand when
she wiped her eyes.
"What would you do if some fat pastry told
you that? You'd slap him. So I did. I told him
that if I was so ugly, I'd just take his job, since
ugly was obviously a requirement. And he fired
me." Angela played with the hem of the dress. "I
deserved it, I suppose."
Kale had stopped writing. He was just sitting
there, watching her make a fool of herself.
"You happy?" she sniffed.28
