Teams in the men's league soft-
ball pennant chase finished reg-
ular league play with batting av-
erages in the same rankings as
their percentage of games won.
Girls' league batting averages
have not been completed due to
the misplacing of some of the
box score results of two games
in the league season.
Magnolia Medico took first
place with .305 percentage for
their batting average, having
tapped the pill 233 times out of
766 times at bat. They scored 248
runs and 59 errors for the sea-
son. They played 23 games.
Gulf, second in the league,
likewise ranked second in bat-
ting averages with .201 per cent.
They hit 187 times out of 717
times at bat in 23 games. They
scored'180 runs and 55 errors.
Sunbeam rated .243 per cent,
International .238 per cent, Ros-
coe .221 per cent, and the Recre-
ation clug which left the race
about June 1 scored .220 for their
9 games played.

In City Softball Race,
Last Play Opens Monday
Final playoff series in the city
softball leagues to determine the
champions for the 1938 season is
scheduled to get underway
Monday night.
Winners of the liest 4 out of
7 game series are to be crowned
champs. Roscoe earned the
right to meet the Young Starr
delegation by taking two straight
games this week from the Busby
delegation. Young Starrs defeat-
ed Nolan Furniture two straight.
Gulf downed the Sunbeam
grocerymen, and Magnolia Medi-
co took the International Har-
vester crew for a ride to earn
the right to the final rounds.
MM, the champs from last year,
has met the Gulf Oilers six
times this season, and was de-
feated only in the first go-round,
10 to 8. Other games have been
close, but in favor of MM: 4 to 3,
14 to 6, 5 to 4, 5 to 4, and a
shutout 12 to 0.
Batting averages for the two
teams are relatively close.
This is the first season for
girls' league competition, but
Roscoe and Young Starrs stand
only a small percentage apart
for the league pennant race,
and have divided the results of
two league tilts played. On May
10, Roscoe defeated the Young
Starrs 7 to 5, and on June 28, the
Young Starr crew took Roscoe
12 to 8.
