DINER TO HONOR
MAYOR KATHY WHITMIRE
The Council of Asian American Organization will
honor Kathy Whitmire, Mayor of Houston, with a dinner
on October 18th at 8:00 P.M. at Stouffer's Hotel in
greenway Plaza. Reservations at $25 per person are

LAS VEGAS NIGHT
Las Vegas Night, sponsored by the Chinese Profess-
ional Club is set for Saturday, October 29th at the Strake
Jesuit College Preparatory from 7:00 P.M. till 12:00 PM.
Prizes will be auctioned from 11:00 P.M. till 12 midnight.
All proceeds will be donated to the Chinese Professional
Scholarship Fund.
CPC members and the Public are cordially invited.
NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION
OF THE PRC
Barbecue will be the order of the day when members of
Houston's Chinese Community celebrate the National Day of
the P.R. of China on October 9th, 6;oo P.M. at the Knights
of Columbus Hall, 2606 Louisiana . Entertainment will
also be featured.

CACA ANNIVERSARY DINNER
The Houston Lodge Chinese American Citizens Alliance
will celebrate their 29th Anniversary with a dinner

There will be a free seminar at the University of
Houston on "How to Conduct Effective Meetings", from

CHINESE STUDENT ASSOCIATION
ANNOUNCEMENTS
An International Culture and Variety Show will be held
Saturday, October 22, 7:00 P.M. at the Cullen Auditorium
on the University of Houston main campus, off Calhoun.
The Chinese Students Association join the U.H.Internation-
al Students Organization in sponsoring this display of
international student's cultures and talents. Tickets
are only one dollar ($1.00). For more invcrmation,

in C.S.A.'s plans this upcoming basketball season to
organize block seating for the Cougars' home game at
Hofheinz Pavilion.

Harvard Law School is actively recruiting minority
students this month at the University of Houston, Uni-
versity Park Campus. Interested students can meet with
recruiters from the distinguished school at the Student
Life Building on October 6th, from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
HOUSTON - TAIPEI SISTER CITIES
FUND RAISING CAMPAIGN
Ths Kick-off Fund Raiser Campaign to landscape the
grounds surrounding the Chinese Pavilion which was a
gift from the people of the City of Taipei to the
people of the City of Houston is scheduled on Wednesday,
October the 26th at the Westin Galleria Hotel Ballroom.
The event honors Mayor Kathy Whitmire and members of
the Houston City Council, as well as Taipei Mayor
Jackson C.T. Yang and speaker of the Taipei City Council
Clement Chang.
Heading the steering committee is Bryan V. Williams,
who is assisted by Hobert Joe, Jane Gee and Bill Woo.
Houston-Taipei Sister Cities tickets are $75 per
person and are tax deductible with dinner and entertain-
ment which features Baritone Howard Hartman and a Fashion
Show modeling of historical gowns from the many dynas-
ties in China --- in addition Chinese opera stage costumes
will also be shown. There will be music provided by
the Jazz Comapny. Tickets are available through Bill
