Bill and Sandi Der Bing
were joined by family and
friends on August 27, in
celebrating the first birth-
day of their son, Clifton
Michael. Born on September
7, 1982, Clifton is the
brother of Christopher Der-
Bing and a grandson of
Houstonians William and
Eleanor DerBing, and of
George and Beatrice Wong of
Oakland, California.
Tak H. Seto and wife Linda hosted a dinner party
at the Lucky Inn Restaurant on Sept. 25,1983 celebrating
the Grand Opening of their T & L Supermarket at 225 W.
Canino Rd., Houston, Tx. 77037.
The Chinese Baptist Church softball teams continue to
^xcel. The Royal Ambassadors boy's team won their league
championship and the Men's team finished second in their
league. Both teams participated in the Union Baptist
Association Summer Softball Leagues. Commissioner for
the UBA was Mike Chan.
As previously announced, the C.A.C.A. is donating
books to the Houston Public Library which tell of the
history and contributions of Chinese in America.
Persons donating $20 or more will be presented with a
beautiful C.A.C.A. t-shirt. Contact Esther Quan for

Dr. Edward Chen was invited to speak at the Harrisburg
Rotary on Tuesday, September 20,1983. His topic was on
the History of the Chinese in Houston.
His speach was immensely enjoyed by all present. It
gave everyone a greater insight on the former problems
and persecutions of the Chinese in Texas.
Mrs. Elsie Huang has been named principal of the brand
new Mayde Creek Elementary School in the Katy Independent
School District.
Under new ownership is Gulfgate Shopping City's Kung
Hay Chinese Restaurant, where adept chef Hoa D. Quach
prepares authentic Cantonese cuisine.
Quach, who shares ownership with Kwan Cheuk Ngo, comes
to Kung Hay from Broadway, Chinatown in Los Angeles
where he spent years perfecting his expertise.
The food is excellent and authentic, yet it is mod-
estly priced. Kung Hay offers a daily lunch special
with dishes priced from $2.50 to $2.95 and served from
11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Gertrude Yang conducts another tour group to the Main-
land in October for sightseeing the cultural, art and
history of China. Recently associated with LaGuarta
Gavrel & Kirk, she sold 5 houses in one month's time in
River Oaks.
In protest to the shooting down of Korean Airlines
Flight 007, many Chinese joined other Asian groups in
demonstration against the Soviet Union. The demons-
tration held on Sept. 4, 1983 at Houston City Hall
featured speakers from various Korean groups, Vietnamese
groups, and the Chinese American Alliance.
Father Luis Chia enjoyed a New York vacation for he
travelled to the Big Apple for the convention of Chinese
Catholic priests. He also had the occasion to visit
such cities as Baltimore, Md., Philadelphis, Pa., New
Orleans, La., and Washington, D.C.
Alvin Gee spoke before the Professional Photographers
of America at their national '84 convention in Atlantic
City. His subject: 'Environmental and Outdoor Portraits."
In September he accepted an invitation to judge the
State convention in New Orleans. He was joined by his
wife Janice on the trip.
Susan Sung Chen is the new owner of "Flowers to You"
in Houston for three months since her graduation from
Texas A & M. Her husband is a Ph.D. candidate soon to
acquire his degree in agriculture skills in soils and
minerals. Susan's artistic talents allow her to color
coordinate floral arrangements attractively for weddings,
parties, innumerable eventful occasions. Sijk flowers
are ideal for perennial beauty and psychologically sound
for all rooms in the hone, says Susan, a psychology grad.
