Greetings and good tidings
from the land where the sun
shines the brighest Sun
Country the 13th Spt. Bde.
of course! Its Willie here to
report the happenings and the
doings of all you local sun
beams in the bright side of
the world.
Speaking of bright who
said the best things in life
are free? Flowers may be
free to enjoy but it sure
takes a lot of pruning and
fertilizing to make roses
bloom just right. And is the
air we breathe really free?
How many go around with a
tissue or hankie because of
polution? Okay you might
say love and happiness are
free well not quite
Last weekend my husband
tried to buy peace and quiet.
Guess he got tired of my sad
a a
reminescence over the lost of
my puppy who was almost
^like our first child.
Needless to say we ended up
in Waco visiting pet stores
and screntinizing 'pet ads' for
the right 'ball of fluff.
Having visited a number of
places and studied many lit
tle balls of fur I in typical
fashion decided on the puppy
we first looked at.
Returning to the pet store
we discovered him to be
more than the coinage we
had on hand. We considered
waiting but woman that I
am I decided I wated the
puppy that day. The kind
owner of the store relently
agreed to stay open while we
made the mad dash back to
Killeen to get our checkbook.
As we tore down the street
wouldn't you know the car
brakes would give way and
the brake fluid began to
drain. Maybe the Sun god
was on our side because we
finally reached home grab
bed the money-book changed
cars and made a quick phone
call to the pet shop. As we
zapped down the highway
through Temple and toward
Waco I knew it wasn't our
day. Looking into the rear-
view mirror of Hubby 'speed
ster' I saw the foreboding
flashing blue light.
Somehow the rush to pick up
a puppy wasn't a big enough
emergency to warrant going
15-miles above the speed
limit. Handing my husband
his speeding ticket the of
ficer tried to console him
with "Baylor is getting
creamed". With ticket in
hand we sped on to the pet
shop 45-minutes late but
not too late to write off some
money for a ten-pound ball of
fluffy grey fur called WUFF.
Speaking of money the sun
is smiling brightly over the
16th Sig. Bn. During the past
two weeks the battalion has
more than maxed their goal
for the Combined Federal
Campaign. According to their
project officer 2nd Lt. Ted
Witt no pressures were
placed on the personnel to
contribute to this "which
made possible the collection
of almost 72-hundred dollar
s''. The goal for the battalion
was set at 45-hundred dollars.
According to Witte" the bat-
)talion expects to more than
double their goal by the end
of the campaign."
While the men-folk are
busy at work the wives are
also doing their thing. The
officers' wives of the 169th
Maint. Bn. had their monthly
coffee in the home of Mrs.
Richard Farley on Sept. 27th.
Co-hosting the event was
Mrs. Richard Thompson. The
purpose of the of the social
