Passtime
For a fun filled weekend take
the family to SIX FLAGS OVER
TEXAS located on the Dallas-
Fort Worth Turnpike in Arl
ington Texas. SIX FLAGS pro
vides lively entertainment for
the young and old. Open from
10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days
a week during the summer and
on weekends in the fall SIX
FLAGS features more than 85
rides and shows. For the ad
venturesome there is the newly
opened "Big Bend" ride. It is
billed as the longest and fastest
ride in the United States
reaching speeds of 50 mph over
a two mile track. For the more
sedate there is the "Ole Time
Train Ride" around the SIX
FLAGS complex. For those who
like to relax there is the new
Sing Out America show in the
Southern Palace located in the
Confederate section of the park.
There are many more shows
and rides besides the ones men
tioned. You can take a ride on
the Run Away Mine Train or
drive an old timey car there
is even an old time shoot out
held in the Texas section of
SIX Flags. Tickets are 5.75 for
adults and 4.00 for children
under 12. Discount tickets for
military personnel maybe ob
tained from the Fort Hood
Special Services Bldg. 2301
The Beautiful Star Ranch and
Camp located 22 miles west
of Lampasas on Route 580 has
extended an invitation to all
residents of Ft. Hood to share
its marvelous fishing and the
scenic wonder of its nature
trails and campsites.
Located on the Colorado River
near Bend Texas the star camp
offers excellent cat fishing boat
and cabin rentals and trailer
hookups. There is ample space
for rod and reel fishing trot
line bank line or jug fishing
and so far this year catfish have
been hooked ranging in size from
five to 60 pounds.
Star Camp is a place where
a man and his family can enjoy
nature at its best close
enough to Ft. Hood yet far
enough away for a vacation or
weekend of rest and relaxation.
Reenlistment
Sgt. Signs Up
As Counselor
Staff Sgt. Facundo Vasquez
the career councilor for the 1st
Bn. 50th Inf. 2nd Armd. Div.
is convinced that the career he
advocates is the very best and
he proved his feelings Monday
morning as he reenlisted for his|
present duty assignment.
Vasquez is the ''oldest"!
(longest-serving) member of the
battalion and has served in the
Army for a period of five years
and nine months.
His reenlistment program at
the 1st Bn. 50th Inf. has main
tained a consistently high record
of reenlistments for infantry
units within the division and it
may be due to the fact that
Vasquez believes in .what he|
preaches.
Retirement Held
By First Team
Two 1st Cav. Div. soldiers I
with over 40 years combined
active federal service were
honored in a special ceremony
Friday afternoon June 25 in
the division conference room.
The men were saluted upon
their retirement from active du
ty.
First Sgt. Joseph A. Stanfield
Hq. Hq. Co. 1st Bn. 8th Cav.
and STkff Sgt. Clarence D.
Johnson Hq. Hq. Co. 1st Bn.
6th Field Artillery each with
more than 20 years of sendee
were presented certificates of
appreciation.
Maj. Gen. James C. Smith

presented the certificates to the
retirees while Cmd. Sgt. Maj.
Roland O. Orr personally con
gratulated the men as did
Smith.
Drug Seminars
Begin Thursday
Every officer in the 1st Cav.
Div. will attend a drug abuse
class Thursday. July 8th -at
Post Theater 1. The class which
begins at 8 a.m. will feature
opening remarks by Maj. Gen.
James C. Smith 1st Cav. Div.
commander.
The division surgeon Lt. Col.
Tomaso Burriel-Carmona will
present the officers with the
medical aspects of drug abuse
as well as the many Army pro
grams developed to combat the
problem. Representatives from
the office of the Staff Judge Ad
vocate and Provost Marshal will
speak on the laws pertaining
to drug abusers.
