FTA CLUB ELECTED
PRESIDENT
Following the policy eslablishcd
last year at the District 10 FTA
meeting- clubs instead of people
were elected as officers of the
District FTA organization.
In the District FTA meeting at
Austin on Friday March 20 the
Fort Hood Club was elected as
president for 1953-54 the Killeen
Club was elected as vice-president
and Taylor as secretary-treasurer.
The Fort Hood FTA was the only
group at the Austin meeting with
100 percent representation. Mrs.
Ethel Spitzer and Mrs. Ruby Bal
lard sponsors for the Future Teach
er work at Fort Hood accompanied
the group to Austin.
STUDENTS TO SEE "OTHELLO"
The annual staff and the senior
class will go to Waco on Thursday
night March 26 to see the Shake
spearean tragedy "Othello" a
production of the drama depart
ment of Baylor University. Mrs.
Ruby Ballard will sponsor the
group.
The Fort Hood teachers attended
the District meeting of the Texas
State Teachers Association in Aus

Modern Study Club jointly held
their monthly card party for the
men of Fort Hood at the Killeen
USO Club on March 19.
There were seven full tables play
ing canasta and pinochle. High win
ners in canasta were PFC and Mrs.
Franklin Imig and their prize was
a box of home-made chocolate
fudge. Also winning fudge were
Cpl. Miklas Grunstein Hqs. Co.
1st Armored Division and PFC
Gene Badgett of the 2nd AAA Bn.
A door prize was won by Mrs.
Edward E. Barzona whose husband
is with CC "B". These prizes were
all donated by Mrs. Heflin Miller
and Mrs. John Crouch and Mrs.
Weaver Jackson.
Refreshments of sandwiches
cookies and coffe were served by
Mrs. Roy Smith Mrs. Roy Rey
nolds and Mrs. Weaver Jackson
who were hostesses at the party.
Coffee was donated by Miss Frank-
ie Chanselor and the sandwiches
were donated by Mrs. Guy- Evans
Jr. Cookies were given by. Mrs.

Killeen USO Takes Over Gatesville Club Operation
The Killeen USO has taken aver
directing duties at the USO in
Gatesville which was almost forc
ed to close because of a lack of
funds from the national organiza
tion Mrs. Ruth Glasgow acting
director of the Killeen USO said
last week.
The Gatesville club opened last
spring just before Exercise "Long
Horn." A building was remodeled
for the club's use and it was com

Volunteer workers from Gates
ville will operate the club on a six-
night-a-week basis with part of the
