Valentine's Day surrounds

Yob never criticized his slop-
pinemkr moodiness or even his
occasi&iial tendency to stretch the
truth juSt u little bit.
On"? the "Good Girlfriend
Scale" ofi-jLO. you have surely
earned a 12. This year, he'll not
only give you the card most drip-
ping with sentimentality, but he'll
probably give rosei|and candy
too. After all, he loves you.
Are you sure of that?
As you travel o^Hj
Relationship Road, how can you
tell when you have crossed that
mile wide line that begins as
Good Girlfriend and ends with
you in the starring role of
Doormat?
Sometimes, it can be diffi-
cult. But there are a few sure
jjend
offer to throw llftwLpf
the washing
ne because you are doing
anyway.
You have doormat' written
all over you if you are ironing his
best pants so he can take another
girl out, even if he sweMS they

You are a good girlfriend
when you volunteer to stand in
line for four hours to buy those
tickets to see your favorite band,
the one that sings "your" song,
especially when you know that
he would do it for you.
^ftdt if he tells you, right
before the concert that he forgot a
frfend's birthday and asks if he
could take this friend, using your
ticket, he is a jerk.
When you meekly hand
them over with that upper lip
stiff, you are the doormat.
Even more pathetic is if he
calls you from the concert, hold-
ing up his cell phone so you can
feel like you are there, and you
gush over his thoughtfulness,
then you're the dirt that collects
under the doormat!
You are a good girlfriend
when you take an active interest
in his likes and interests. You are
thoughtful when you pick up a
CD by his favorite artist, just to
let him know you thought of him.
You are a doormat when his
life's theme song is "Wasn't Me"
by Shaggy and you listen to it in
your car, learning all the words,
so you can sing along with him.
You are a good girlfriend
when you understand that you
need time apart. After all, that
gives you things to talk about
when you see each other again.
You understand you should each
have your own friends.
You are a doormat when you
catch him in a lip-locked clench
with a blond beauty and by the
time he finishes talking, you are
apologizing for not trusting him.
Relationships can be a tricky
thing. Each of us has a different
event that forces our eyes wide
open and makes us recognize
what we have become.
This Valentine's Day, your
first together, after you hand him
the new watch you bought, and
after he tells you about the card
that he 'thought' about buying...
'but it wasn't his fault' and 'you
are such a great girlfriend' and
'anyway, it is the thought that
counts,' take a look at the clock.
Remember the exact
moment you decided to brush off
those boot prints and wipe the
word "WELCOME" off your
forehead.

Chris Larry is a 19-year-old freshman
majoring in international business. He wais
born in Lewisville but grew up in The Colony,
where he began a love that has flowered into
a young, but successful career.
During
Larry's fresh-
man year in
high school, his
friends sparked
an interest in
him to pursue
modeling. It
was this spark
that led him to
an interview at
Model Search
America, a
company that
regularly brings
the nation's
leading model
and talent scouts to the area to discover local
faces.
Not to long pfter his interview and run-
way audition, Laity received a few call-backs
from agencies interested in working with him.
Of the handful of agencies that were pursuing
him, he chose to do business with Page Parks
214.
Larry has done JCPenney catalogs and
ads. one of) tyhfcli wound up in Teen
Magazine. He'Eflld walked a runway show for
Good Morning. Texas at the Fort Worth Zoo.
He has traveled to places like Milan,
Italy, and New York lo do auditions called
Chris Larry
"open calls" in an effort to gain print jobs.
Larry thanks his parents for their support
is venture. He said, "They back, me 100
perebfjt. My dad even went wit})'me to the
runwayShqw at Model Search'America."
He said nTs |JUIfills' support does not stop
at the moral and emotional. "Getting head-
shots and pictures taken to update my portfo-
lio costs a lot of money, and my parents have
supported me financially as well," Larry said.
Despite support, Larry still has suffered
his share of sacrifices. Although Larry
intended to play basketball for Wesleyan this
year, his classes, modeling auditions and
photo shoots took up too much time.
"I didn't see my future in basketball,"
Larry said, "I'd rather do something where I
can pursue a career."
Larry also takes dance classes. He is cur-
rently involved in a modern hip-hop dance
course. He cited singer Ginuwine as a defi-
nite and "creative" influence on his style. He
gave credit to Michael Jackson as well
because "he started it all."
In modeling, Larry says Will Lemay, a
Canadian clothing model, is his role model.
H,e called Lemay "versatile," because he mod-
els a wide range of clothing, from "exotic
Versace to Sean John."
Larry says he intends to "travel all over
the world doing shows, seeing sites and living
in different places" and "to be seen in maga-
zines, on billboards, and in runway shows
overseas." Larry also plans on eventually
opening up his own modeling agency and
maybe even breaking into acting.
