Speaking to the members of
the State Advisory Committee in
Austin recently. Dr. Fnpelbach
traced the progress of the Nat
ional Foundation Committee from
its beginning "when there was
only a hope and a dream until

ugh research believes it may

Calling attention to the multi
tude of problems surrounding the
propo-ed trials. Dr. Fngelbach
said: "Thi. will be one of the
greatest human field trials in the
history of public health. We an
ticip^te that between 500,000 and
1,000,000 children will take part.
As in tin' pant, the volunteers
withh play the major role."
"While w< d not know where
the trials will be held yet, we can
be reasonably assured that Tex
as will play a part in them," he
continued. "The tests will be ba-
ed on five important factors.

during the past five years; 2)
high epidemi* rate during June
through September in these
vears; '! I high attack rate in
specific age groups; 4) adequate
health and educational facilities;

graphical location, population,
