Avondale Baptist Easter Cantata
Avondale Baptist Church of Sweetwater,
located at 1405 Hoyt Street, will present
an Easter Cantata entitled, "Who Do You
Say I Am," at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday,April
17, 2011. For more information, call the

Roby Easter Cantata
An Easter Cantata "Then Came the
Morning," will be presented at 6 p.m.
on Sunday, April 17, in the sanctuary of
First United Methodist Church in Roby.
Fellowship and refreshments will follow
the cantata at the church. The choir is
made up of persons throughout the com-
munity. The public is invited to attend.
Monday, April 18
AARP
Nolan County Chapter AARP will meet
at 6:30 p.n on Monday, April 18, at the
SNAP Building. A business meeting and
musical program by the Good Ole Boys
and Girls will be presented. A covered
dish meal will be served.
Tuesday, April 19
The Texas Tec Small Business
Development Center will conduct a
free workshop on Starting Your Own
Business. This workshop will provide a
basic understanding of ow to develop a
new business and the legal steps required
to start your own business. This work-
shop is Tuesday, April 19, from 4-6 p.m.
The workshop will take place in the Texas
Tech Conference room located on the
6th floor of the Enterprise Building, 500
Chestnut. Seating is 1 lited for this free

The Adult Literacy/ESL class will meet

Volunteer Supper Cancelled
The volunteer hamburger supper
set for Thursday, April 21, 2011, at the
Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce back
yard has been cancelled. Volunteers will
be honored at the volunteer chamber
coffee at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, May 4,
2011, at the Pioneer Museum.
Friday, April 22
School Day
Friday, April 22, 2011 will be a regu-
lar school day for Sweetwater ISD. The
schools will be using this day as a make
up day for the bad wea ther in February.
Regular school hours will be observed.
City Closings
The City of Sweetwater business offices
will be closed on Friday, April 22, in
observance of Good Friday There will
be no residential refuse trucks runnir
on Friday and commercial refuse
run as scheduled. All Friday routes will
be picked up on Thursday. The citizen's
drop off center and Type IV Landfill will
be closed on Friday and Saturday and will
reopen on Monday, April 25.
Roosters Motorcycle Rally
The 10th annual Sweetwater Jaycees
Roosters Motorcycle Rally and cook off
will be held at the Lake Sweetwater RV
campgrounds Friday, April 22 through
Sunday, April 24. Cooking contestants
pay $80, biker registration will >e $20,
general admission is $5 and children 12
and under are free. There will be a cook
)ff, poker run, raffles, bike games and
live music.
Saturday, April 23
Free Movie
The Plainview Church of Christ of
Colorado City will host a free movie at
1:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at
M3 Palace Theater. 137 Walnut Street,
in Colorado City. A free showing of epic
movie, "The Ten Commandments,"
will take place the day before Easter in
Colorado City.
Co-Ed Softball Tournament
The Blackwell Consolidated
Youth Association will be hosting a
Co-Ed Softball Tournament in Bronte
on April 23. Players must be 16 or older
to enter. Entry fee is $10 per person.
T-shirts will be given to the first and sec-
ond place teams, as well as plaques for
the men's and women's homerun derby
champions. RV hookups are available,
but limited. RSVP for tournament entry

Tuesday, April 26
AARP Dri ving Class
An AARP driver safety training class
is scheduled for Tuesday, April 26,
2011, at 1701 Elm Street in Sweetwater.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and class
is from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. This is a
new four-hour class It is ir people 50
years of age and older and is designed
for age-re rted problems such as pth
perception, reaction time and other driv-
ng skills. Driving on local and interstate
highways is also covered. A certificate
valid for three years is given on comple-
tion and may qualify the driver for a dis-
count on car insurance. The cost for the
course is $12 for AARP members (mem-
bership card required) and $14 for non-
AARP members. Call SNAP at 236-6344

Friday, April 29
Sweetwater Rifle & Pistol
Club Scholarship
Each year the Sweetwater Rifle and
Pistol Club awards scholarship to a
graduating senior from each of the four-
high schools in Nolan County. This year's
award is $1,000 paid to the college the
recipient chooses. Interested students
need to see their respective counselors
soon as the deadline for the application to
be returned to the Sweetwater Rifle and
Pistol Club is Friday, April 29, 2011.
Benefit Dance
The Guadalupana Society will have a
benefit dance 'aturing Thoze Guyz on
Saturday, April 30, at the Knights of
Columbus hall in Sweetwater. Cost is
$010 per ticket. For more information,

Saturday, May 7
Softball Tournament
A softball tournament will be held
Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Rio Concho
Complex in San Angelo. Divisions
include Men's D/E and co-ed with USSSA
Sanctioned/Certified officials and USSSA
points awarded to top teams. Entry fee
is $135 per team (pay at the plate for
officials) and deadline to enter a team
and pay the fee is Sunday, May 1, 2011,
no exceptions. First through third place
teams will be awarded. There will be dou-
ble elimination and one game champion-

Cars and Stars
An open class car show will take place
on Saturday, May 7, on the largest down-
town square in America, in Graham. The
show starts at 3 p.m., followed by a cruise
at 7:30 p.m., ending with a movie at
Graham Drive In at 8:30 p.m. For more

Bagpipes in the Park
Bagpipes in the Park will be presented
from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, May 7,2011, in
the group pavilion at Lake Colorado City
State Park, 4582 FM 2836 in Colorado
City. Cost is $2 per adult (13 and older)
an children 12 and under are free. The
Abilene Pipers and the Thorn and Thistle
bagpipe group from Midland will per-
form.

One Night With Elvis
Donny Edwards "One Night With
Elvis" show will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday,
May 22, 2011, at the Paramount Theater
in Abilene. Donny is an Elvis tribute art-
ist and was recently a finalist on ABC's
"The Next Best Thing". This two time
world champion Elvis tribute artist will
be backed by the eight-member band
'Fever'. Donny will take you through
the early years and Elvis Las Vegas era.

Reece Whitteker Medical Fund
An account has been established at Roscoe
State Bank, Sweetwater Branch, for the ben-
efit of Robert and Scarlett Whitteker. The
fund is being opened to defray the cost of
meals and hotel stays for the Whittekers
to assist with their son Reece during his
recent surgeiy and upcoming rehabilitation
in Austin. Reece was severely injured in a
diving accident which caused damage to his
neck and spinal cord. To make a contribu-
