Basketball at last!

After a 10-day layoff caused in part by the snowy and
icy weather that struck the area last week, Sweetwater
High School's basketball teams finally returned to
action Saturday to host Big Spring in a varsity double-
header at Mustang Gym. Unfortunately, the visit-
ing teams won both games. Pictured for Sweetwater
are Gabriel Medellin (left photo) and Suede Shirley
(above). Both teams host Wylie today, making up
games that were originally scheduled this past Friday
only to be cancelled. See a full report on both of the
games in Sports on page 7.

West Texas
Honor Flights
helping area
veterans

The greatest generation
that the world has known
is quickly fading away.
Before the chance is lost,
West Texas Honor Flights
project is doing their best
to ensure that the} receive
the recognition that they
deserve.
Jeff Ballenger is calling all
veterans, especially WWII
veterans, to take part in the
West Texas Honor Flight
scheduled for this coming
spring.
"It's a great way to
remember the greatest gen-
eration," Ballenger said.
The local honor flights
are put :ogether by the
Honor Flight Network, a
non-profit organization.
The main focus of the group
is to honor America's veter
ans and pay tribute to all
their sacrifices.
"These flights are our
chance to say thank you,"
Ballenger said.
According to Ballenger a
little over 300 veterans will
be able to take part in this
spring's honor flight, which
will be flying out of Abilene.
The flights are designed to
ensure that the veterans

The Sweetwater Intermediate School Jump Rope Team will be jumping Monday, Feb. 7, at the Sweetwater
High School girl's and boy's varsity basketball games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at Abilene
Christian University at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at the Texas Tech vs. A&M men's game at
