Municipal Band to have
Christmas concert
BY KIMBERLY GRAY
Corresponding Reporter
The Sweetwater Municipal Band invites the com-
munity to their annual Christmas concert on Thursday,
Dec. 16, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium at
7:30 p.m. Admission to the concert is free.
Along with songs played by the band, dance students
with the Sweetwater Performing Arts Studio will be per-
forming during four of the band's pieces.
Larry Ludlum, a member of the band and member
of the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium Board of
Directors, said he not only enjoyed playing Christmas
songs for this concert, but also enjoyed watching the
dancers perform to live music. Ludlum pointed out that
the student dancers have participated in this concert
for about five or six years since the band began holding
their annual Christmas concert in the late 1990s.
Ludlum said the band and the auditorium board are
pleased to be hosting this concert once again. "We look
forward to this all year," he added.
Gary Gibson and Lance Richburg, two local perform-
ers, will also entertain the crowd with a few songs a
piece. Richburg will perform with the band. In addi-

More low-income chil-
dren in the Sweetwater
Independent School
District (SISD) will have
food on weekends during
this school year, thanks to
a generous donation from
Tenaska, developer of the
Trailblazer Energy Center, a
$3.5 billion carbon captur-
ing power plant proposed
near Sweetwater.
Tenaska is donating
$2,000 to expand the
Sweetwater Backpack
Buddies program, a non-
profit volunteer agency
that provides food to chil-
dren identified as chroni-
cally hungry by the SISD
staff and administration,
announced Leah Andrews,
the program's Sweetwater
coordinator.
"This donation will fund
our weekly food contribu-
tions for at least a dozen
more children this school
year," she said. "On behalf
of the students who will
benefit, we very much
appreciate Tenaska's par-
ticipation in Sweetwater
Backpack Buddies. We hope
its contribution will inspire
others in our community to
donate so that our students
