Hot, sunburned, tired
- yet the results being
more positive than nega-
tive, the youth of The
Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints heartily
survived the Yagottawana
Youth Conference July
22-24 at the San Angelo
State Park. The purpose
of the conference was for
them to re-live the trek
of the pioneers crossing
the plains. Divided into
"families," each family
was responsible in pulling
their handcart for 10 to
15 miles. Loaded on each
handcart were the belong-
ings of that particular fam-
ily. Tales were later told of
handcart wheels breaking
and having to learn how to
maneuver the carts down
gulleys.
As you can guess, all
survived.
Dances were scheduled
each evening. After hours,
the youth gathered in their
tents to sing, much to the
moans of the tired leaders.
Saturday morning ended
the conference with a tes-
timony meeting. All who
attended look forward to
next year's conference.
Those attending from
Sweetwater were Carson
Alldredge, Michael Foust,
Jon Ulbrich, Robert
Gonzales, Sierra Milani,
Myshellah Henderson,
Toby Milani, Kinsey
Browning and Johnathan
Browning.
The theme of the youth
conference was based
upon the scripture Joshua
1:9 - "...for the Lord thy
God is with thee whith-
ersoever thou goest."
One youth leader said:
"Yagottawanna means
"you have to want to do
something before you will
do it. The phrase helps us
understand the principle
of agency. Youth with sin-
cere desires take initiative.
They do things without
waiting to be told. They
act rather than wait to be
acted upon."
The outcome was a posi-
tive experience.
Gas prices
increase by a
penny in Texas
The average price for a
gallon of unleaded gaso-
line increased one penny in
Texas, from $2.59 to $2.60,
while the national aver-
age increased from $2.74
to $2.76, according to the
AAA Texas Weekend Gas
Watch. The Texas average is
16 cents below the national
average. At $2.55 a gallon in
Houston and San Antonio,
those two cities have the
cheapest gas in Texas. The
most expense gasoline is in
El Paso at $2.75. Gasoline
prices increased in Amarillo

Hundreds gather for prayer vigil for local pastor
People from faith congregations all across Sweetwater were present on Wednesday in the parking lot of three
downtown churches including 4th and Elm Street Church of Christ, First United Methodist Church and First
Baptist Church to offer prayers for Joe Bagby, pastor of 4th and Elm Street Church of Christ, and his wife,
Paula, and daughters Hope and Joy. Joe was diagnosed with a mass in his brain and a medical team in San
Angelo are determining what can be done. Almost 300 gathered to all pray together in small circle groups and
lift prayers for healing, for peace and for the will of God to be done in Joe's circumstance, and that through
it all, God would be honored and glorified.
