spent from Thursday till Sunday,
week before last, at B Dam fish-
ing, and had good luck catching
fish. Mr. and Mrs. May.'ord Mc-
Millian of Wells, accompanied
them on the fishing trip.
Mrs. Tiny Bell I vie, accompa-
nied by Mrs. Gladys McClendon
of Alto, spent the day, Wednesday,
with Mrs. Essie Smith in Crockett.
Those visiting Mr. and Mrs. H.
B. Arnold Sunday were: Mr. and
Mrs. Bruce Arnold and son, David,
of Rusk; Mr. and Mrs. Milford
Groves of Palestine, and C. J.
Arnold and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Chandler
and children, Steve and Karan,
of Lufkin, visited relatives Satur-
day.
Those visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Hope and family over the
week-end were: Mr. and Mrs.
Leon Pannel and son, Billy Paul
Harrison; Mrs. F. B. Cross and
Garlin Wimberly, ail of Dallas.
Mrs. Cross and Garlin stayed
over till Tuesday and Tommy Joe
Harrison accompanied them to
Dallas.
Looks like winter has arrived.
We had rain and a norther
during the night. This Is about
all the news I have except what
I have been doing. I accompanied
Mr. and Mrs. Cacky Joe Pounds
and daughter of Wells, to Trinity
Sunday evening. Mr. Pounds filled
the Pulpit at Calvary Baptist
Church, as a lay preacher, and
we all enjoyed the church services
there.
I went to Lufkin Saturday on
business.

Mrs. Effie Powell of Houston
was here over the week-end
attending to business and visiting
friends.
Mrs. Lester Jordan was called
to Tyler on account of the serious
illness of her brother-in-law,
Mr. Fred Coats, who is in Med-
ical Center hospital where he
underwent surgery Monday.
Mr. ana Mrs. Ralph Jones and
son of Lufkin are visiting in the
home of Ralph's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Garland Jones.
Mr. Elmer Durham was in Alto
Thursday morning attending the
funeral of Mr. D. C. Barron.
R. S. Wade was a business
vsiitor in Lufkin Monday.
R. D. Free of Pollok, was a
business visitor here Monday.

Welcome back, hot breads. And helio again to versatile, piping-
hot biscuits and mufhns — perfect partners for autumn's hearty
meals. For "quickie" variations to a batch of beautiful biaoults,
try this sometime: Mix 'A cup shredded sharp cheese with the
batter — or 1'/) teaspoons celery salt. Superb with soups and.
stews! To put a little fun in the muftin pan, bake the oatmeal
and corn varieties below. For fancy fall "muffs,** poBta-dot *
basic muffin batter by folding in 'A cup halved cranberries, tossed
with '/] cup confectioners', cugar. Just one thing. Wherever hot
breads go, be sure they go hot — snuggied into a pretty napkin.
Bako up a surprise for break-
fast.
OATMEAL MUFFINS
2 tablespoons sugar*
1 egg
% cup milk
2 cups Bisqulck
'A cup rolled oats
Heat oven to 400°. Grease 12
muHin cups. Mix all ingre-
dients until blended. Beat vig-
orously 30 seconds. Fill muffin
cups % full. Bake 15 minutes.
*For richer mucins, add 2
tablespoons melted shortening
or salad oil and another 2
tablespoons sugar.
More Biscuit Variations: Fol-
low favorite biscuit recipe ex-
cept — mix in '/! cup shredded
dried beef or stir in 'A cup
minced chives or % cup
chopped peanuts.
Here's autumn's com flavored
muffins for meat casseroles.
CORN MUFFINS or STICKS
1 tablespoon sugar
I egg
% cup milk
% ccp Bisqulck
% cap commeal
Heat oven to 460°. Mbc aH
ingredients; beat vigorously 30
seconds. Fill well greased muf-
fin cups or preheated greased
com stick pans % full. Bake
12 toH minutes. Makes 6
muffins or 8 com sticks.
French Bread for spaghetti?
Spread siices with 'A cup but-
ter creamed with 1 teaspoon
poppy, caraway or sesame
seed. Wrap in foil, heat IS
minutes in 400° oven . .. Left-
over mufBns or biscuits?
Lucky you. Split, butter and
toast under broiler. And you
bring 'em back in style. Happy
