Soup counterparts of popuiar cocktails and mixed drinks
are fast becoming the darling of the "jet set." Cocktaii soups
are easy to make from cans of condensed tomato or beef broth,
served over cracked ice and mixed with carbonated beverages,
lemon, V-8 or bitters. A "Madhattan," for example, takes a can
of beef broth and a can of V-8. Other amusing names include!
"Soup and Soda," "Beef and Bitters," "Slow Soup Fizz," and
"Red Eye." The sophistication and convenience of these drinks
are ali good reasons for their popuiarity.
In step with the new drinks, famed bandleader Lester
Lanin has invented a new dance calied, appropriately enough,
"The Soup!" Shown here "souping" it up at 11 Mio, one of
New York's private discoteque clubs, are (left to right) Gail
Gladstone, popular Broadway and teievision actress, Howard
Elliot, designer, Tanya Everett, hottest young Broadway pros-
pect for stardom next season, and Charles Moulton, disk jockey.
