TAWRENCE Mitchell possessed
t-' one special desire, he had
listened to quiz programs on radio,
had watchcd them on TV. He had
known ali the answers; such an
easy way to become rich.
At the moment, Lawrence was
perusing the evening paper, the
phone rang, he laid aside his pa-
per and took up the receiver;
"LawTcnee Mitchell speaking."
"Mr. Mitchell." the voice was
vaguely familiar. "Throw your
brain into high-gear, we are com-
ing your way with glad tidings."
"You must have the wrong num-
ber."
"Impossible. You, of course,
know who this is?"
"I've heard your voice before;
is it Eisenhower?" bantered Larry.
"This is the quiz program; WIN
SEVERAL MILLIONS."
Now, Larry recalled the voice,
it was the quiz master who gave
away other fellow's money with a
liberal hand.
"Mr. Mitchell," he was rattling.
"Tomorrow morning you will re-
ceive, by Special Delivery, a chcck
for $300, if, within forty seconds,
you can tell me whose picture is
3n the $50 bill."
At last, Larry's opportunity of
steppmg into the big money had
arrived. He began concentrating.
"You have thirty seconds,"
crackled in his ear.
"Why—er—ah—um—kindly re-
peat the question."
"Twenty seconds."
"Want me to tell you whose pic-
ture is on the fifty dollar bill?"
asked Larry.
"Hurry. Only ten seconds."
"Why—er—ah—BONG!
"Sorry, better luck next time,"
the click that stabbed his ear-drum
caused little dollar marks to dance
before his eyes.
The glib talking M. C. had taken
an unfair advantage, why hadn't
he asked an easy one, like those
the studio contestants receive, for
instance; "Who's buried in Giant's
Tomb?"
The dollar signs had gone into
a square-dance as his wife entered
the room;
"Who was ft, dear?"
"The quiz master from Win Sev-
eral Millions offering mt Ovo
hundred dollars for a correct an-
swer."
"How thrilling," she- gurgled.
"Now we can purchase that new
living room suite."
"Yeah, a dollar down, a dollar
a week."
"Oh, pshaw, was that the prize?
What question did you answer?"
"He wanted to know whose face
was on the fifty dollar bill."
"You told him, of course, it was
Grant's."
"He was in a hurry, hung up
before I could answer.
Bed time rolled around, his
brain was in a turmoil when he
retired, turned and twisted, rolled
and tossed, finally, completely ex-
hausted, with his wife threatening
to go home to mother, he slid into
peaceful slumber. The phone
jangled, he arose, a queer feeling
enveloped him, he wasn't walking,
but was being wafted to the phone.
"Hello," His voice was dim and
far away.
' This again is Win Several Mil-
lions," the same quiz master, his
words faltered. "We are giving
you one more chance. For the sum
of five thousand, sixty four dollars,
whose picture is on the one hun-
dred dollar bill?"
Without hesitation, Larry replied;
"Franklin's." '
"Correct. Would you care to try
for one million, sixty four thousand
dollars?"
"I would."
"Atta boy. Whose likeness is on
the thousand dollar bill?"
"Cleveland's."
Larry's wife shook him;
"The alarm rang time minutes
ago, wake up."
Half asleep Larry crawlcd out of
bed. Breams he kut-.vs never
came to pass.
