have been a lot of "drunk" fish
in the Ohio River recently, when
a barge, loaded w'th 15.000 gal-

Front the Canton !ndcpendcnt-
Sentine), Canton, Fa.; Many Amer-
icans complain they have trouble
sleeping at night. They resort to
all sorts of drugs, sleeping pills,
and other remedies, some of
which are not ncccssary and some
of which do not do the body any
good.
Experts have unanimously
agreed that difficulty in getting
to sleep at night is rarely due to
a physical disorder or ailment.
Insomnia, if you have it, can
usually be prevented if you will
use your thinking process a bit
and if you can discipline your-
self to refrain from worry at
night, putting off your problems
until the morning.
The first task, relaxing, ts par-
tially dependent on disciplining
yourself to starting yourself each
day, tackling your problems in
the morning and not worrying
about them all night If you will
remember that worry never ac
complishes anything, except to
destroy your health and your hap-
piness, you will soon learn to dis-
card worry and to tackle your
problems each day as they arise.
Experts say that if you wish
to avoid insomnia, you should
give yourself an opportunity to
relax and unwind before going
to sleep. They suggest listening
to quite music, reading an easy-
to-read-novel, taking a warm bath
leisurely, or pursuing some other
hobby or relaxation which will
quite you down.
A combination of resorting to
uselessly worry over life's prob-
lems at night and calming your-
self down before you go to bed
will produce better results than
drugs, sleeping pills and artiflcal
sleepmakers. Also, it will save
you money.
From the Suburban List. Essex
Junction, Vermont: Colleges are
turning out thousands of students
who get higher education but
criticism is made they are lack-
ing in some fundamentals.
The Dean of the Law School
at Columbia University in New
York City says that the inability
of college students to read and
write is growing by leaps and
bounds. He wants to have eourze*
established in writing and gram-
mar instruction which is sup-
posed to be thoroughly taught in
the high schools.
Dr. William Warren makes this
criticism and he might have also
included spelling. How true it is
that many college students are
not able to write with a clear-
ness that is understood. They use
long involved sentences that have
little or no meaning.

F/IZ-LS FEJV FLOORS.
L/fES
St. Louis, Mo. — Robert Ran-
son. 23-year-old elevator me-
chanic's helper, felt ten to twelve
floors down in elevator shaft, and
iived to teii about it. Ransom
working on the 17th floor of a
building, opened the shaft door,
intending to turn on a light in the
etevator. The iift was at the
ground floor and Ranson step-
ped into space. He fell about
five floors before managing to
get his arms and legs around
the etevator cable, which checked
his fait but didn't stop him. While
the friction burned his hands, he
managed to stop his fall, opened
a door with his feet and swung
himsetf out of the shaft.
