Mr. and Mrs. Roy Maddux oi
Houstog have been visiting several
days with Roy's mother, Mrs. E. R.
Maddux, and brothers, Harland and
Hub Maddux.
Mrs. Lettie Smith of San An-
tonio is a guest in the home of her
sister, Mrs. Ed Scales. Sunday, Mrs
Scales in company with her son-in-
law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. J. R.
Acrey, took her sister on a picnic ex-
cursion. sight seeing of familiar
places they had lived in early girl-
hood days.
Mrs. S. F. Sparkman of Houston is
visiting with Oid Palestine Church
neighbors and friends and was the
guest of Mrs. John Kelly Sunday.
Mrs. Sparkman has lots of frienas
here that are always glad to have
her visit with them.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Calhoun of
Austin and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon
Tobias of Salem, 111., have been
visiting with Oliie Tobias, father of
Mrs. Calhoun and Vernon Tobias
Miss Rose Arrant, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jim Eb Arrant, has gone to
Dallas to spend the summer with her
sister, Mrs. Frank Loper. How we
are to keep the home fires burning
that length of time without our joily
little Rose, is a problem. We haven't
figured it out. Time alone will solve
it.
Mrs. B. J. Robinson and son of
Austin visited last week with Mrs.
Robinson's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Geo. B. Terrell, and her brother's
family, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Terrell.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Williams and
baby of Orange, mme Saturday to
spend their vacation with Allen's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T.
Williams.
Mr. and Mrs. Kendall Durrett of
Maydelle spent the week-end with
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Durrett.
Mr. Paul Whitehead is taking time
off in delivering mail on route 1, and
Mr. H. V. Cooper is serving in his
place. Mr. Cooper, like Mr. White-
head, knows they have to take a lot
of fussing at by being early or late
with the mail, but man like, they
take it good naturedly and then tell
all the iate news about the war.
Dr. G. S. Hays of Alvin spent Sun-
day with the Rice families.
Mrs. Lelia Whitaker of Cushin^
spent Sunday with her mother. Mrs
Fanny Roark.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Williams;
Misses Hazel and Jewel Williams
went to Ratcliff for a spend the day

Cincinnati. Mrs. Sparkman had a
lovely vi^t with these loyal Old
Palestine Church friends that love
her for her real worth, and these
visits from her home in Houston to
old neighbors bring back the most
cherished memories of her life.

Monday.

that their young son, James, who
underwent an appendectomy opera-
tion in Jacksonville hospital last
week, was able to be brought home
Monday, and is now improving
rapidly.
