TURF NOTES
Last winter there were s select few
la the know" who attempted to "put

had him all ready an ever I rsreaa-
lone and bad no trouble finding a
soft sp.it. but tbe animal failed
them every time. They again at-
tempted lo put blm over at the re-
cent meeting held at Coeur d'Alene
Idaho with the same results. At
Butte the other day they entered the
horse Is a race but passed him up
tht time and sent the "stuff In in
large chunks on Tight Boy backing
the latter down from elghtg to twos.
King Radford opened at tens and
drifted to forty going begging. Th
finish law King Radford In front
with the good thing In th ruck and
yet they say there are "wlae" one
connected with raeiag.
R. F. Carman the millionaire
horseman whose powerful table waa
somewhat of a joke over the river last
year haa evidently profited by the
leseon taught him then as hla stable
lead all thoee that have raced around
New Tork this summer In the num-
ber of race won. Last winter Car-
man fired three or four competent
tralnera and attempted to condition
hi own hora.-s with the resun that
with th most powerful Stable both
as regards quantity and quality his
winning were not enough to pay for
tha feed alone. Since getting back
Bast he haa engaged a competent
trainer and haa let the latter handle
tbe horses with the result that hla
thoroughbreds are winning with
great regularity. Last Thursday he
started four at Belmont and finished
flrat with three and second with the
other. Carman was asked to take hi
horse away from Juarez last winter
because of hut remarks about every
boy that rode one of hi animals the
owner blaming the boy for the non-
auooeaa of hla runners. It Is probable
that he will be back again this year
and with the lesson he learned last
winter hia ehould prove one of the
most powerful combinations stabled
at Juares.
