GMS students advance to San Antonio Science Meet
Grulla Middle School UIL students Jaime Garcia (8th grade) and Omar Salinas (8th grade) advanced to
the UIL San Antonio Meet in the Science category. Garcia obtained the 6th place position at the UIL
meet held at Nellie Schunior in La Joya to make him a TMSCA UIL qualifier. Salinas placed 5th at
the UIL meet held at Cesar Chavez Middle School, also in La Joya, to also make him a TMSCA UIL

STC Kids & Teens College
Summer Program kicks off June 1
South Texas College is once
again getting prepared to rece've
hundreds of elementary, middle
school and high school students
from Starr and Hidalgo Counties
during the second annual Kids'
& Teens' College. This summer
program is scheduled to begin in
June with two sessions, June 1-
14 and June 19-30.
Registration fairs will be held
at STC's Starr County, Mid-
Valley campuses and the
Technology Center Workforce
Centers from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
on May 6 and May 20.
The program's purpose is to
make learning fun for children
currently in first through twelfth
grade. Students will enjoy a
variety of classes aligned with
the Texas Essential Knowledge
and Skills (TEKS) objectives
and enrichment programs, with
hands on activities that help
promote college awareness and
challenge the students to use
cognitive thinking skills.
Classes such as Living in
Space, Art Exploration, Stars,
Planets and Satelites,
Scholarship & Grants,
PowerPoint with Pizzazz, and
Algebra Madness are just a
section of the specialized classes
have been specifically designed
for the different age groups of
each student.
Each class is two-hours long.
The sessions begin each day at 8
a.m. and will take place through
out the day until 5 p.m., with a
lunch break from 12-1 p.m.
Lunch is not provided. Students
are allowed to take up to four
classes during each session at a
cost of $90 per class. This fee
includes the cost of the course,
supplies/materials used in each
class, and a t-shirt for each
student.
Open registration will be held
until May 22 at STC's Starr
County, Mid-Valley campuses
and the Technology Center. A
parent or legal guardian will
need to be prepared for the
registration process.
