Safe Summer Child ID events
planned March 8 at RGC schools
• •
Children are most vulnerable
to becoming lost, missing, or
injured during school breaks and
while on vacation. Feb. I
marked the annual kickoff of the
"Safe Summer Program
Campaign."
It is the mission of the Child
Program of Texas to encourage
all schools that have not yet
participated in the Child ID
Child Safety Program this
school year to do so in March,
April, or May. Participation is
so important. It could help save
one of your children's lives.
In an emergency situation,
law enforcement MUST
IMMEDIATELY be provided
with complete and accurate
information and a current
photograph to aid in the rapid,
safe recovery of a lost or
missing child. The first few
minutes are critical.
The Child ID Program Parent
Identification Card contains all
of the essential elements: high
resolution photograph, complete
physical description, date of
birth, parent's name, address,
phone numbers, important
identifiers (glasses, braces, etc.).
medical information and the
child's fingerprint. The Child ID
Identification Card is designed to
be in the parent's
possession at all times.
This program is very
important because of all the
recent kidnappings and violence
along the border.
Several area principals have
given their parents the
opportunity to participate with
CHIP-Child ID Program and it
was a huge success with the
parents. One parent, from Roque
Guerra Elementary School,
stated, "What took you so long
to come to our school?" Parents
at Alto Bonito Elementary
School were also excited to have
the opportunity to participate
with the Child ID Program.
Parents may choose from a
variety of safety products: a
backpack/child ID Card to be
carried by the child that contains
all of the above information
except the home address,
making it safe for the student to
carry, a student ID bracelet, a
CD computer ID, a refrigerator
magnet ID (used by
babysitters/grandparents), and a
keychain ID for those who do
not carry a wallet. The cards are
made of hard, tamper proof.
PVC plastic (the same as a
Texas driver's license). The
safety products are very
affordable too: packages start at
just $6.00. Participation in the
program is totally optional for
the parents.
CHIP, The Child ID Program,
will be at Ringgold Elementary
School on Wednesday, March 8,
2006 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00
noon. On the same day, due to
popular demand, the Child ID
Program will be back at Roque a
Guerra Elementary School from
1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
If you would like CHIP-The
Child ID Program— to come to
your child's school, please
contact your principal so a £
program date can be set with
CHIP-The Child ID & Safety
Program. After you have
contacted your principal, please
feel free to contact CHIP at I
866-367-2447 for more
information.
Pets
(NU) - For animals in the
wild, as well as house pets,
tiny environmental changes
can be detected and often warn
of danger. Consider these tips
to help your pet weather those
inevitable storms: Let your pet
have access to its favorite hid-
ing place; create white noise W
by turning on a fan or radio to
block out the sound of thunder;
and consider giving your pet
a supplement like Pet Calming
Spray. Made by Pluto Pet, this
spray will help relieve an ani-
mal's fear and nervousness, a
