Autumn Programs Highlight Texas Treasures ^
Places and events in Texas have served as the subjects of programs for Texas Delta Theta Master
Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi during their autumn meetings. Members are pictured at a meeting hosted
by Elda Hinojosa, who presented a program on Jazz Festivals of Texas. Argyle Acres near Fort Worth,
where many varieties of elegant flowers are grown, was the program presented by Sonja Smith at a
meeting held in her home in November, and a South Texas Posada was the theme of a Christmas
program presented by Moni Palacio at the sorority Christmas party held in the home of Celia Barrera,
with spouses as special guests.
Pastor says God offers restoration Pastor says respect, abstinence
in overcoming wrong actions in life keys to solid dating relationships
Pastor Bob Alderman
First Baptist Church
I am writing this article on
Monday December 26, 2005; the
day after Christmas.
Today is the "Day of Great
Returns" as many people are
still off of work for the
Christmas holiday and use the
day to return all of the gifts they
received but don't really want.
Malls and stores are almost
as crowded today as they were
on Saturday. A large number of
Saturday's shoppers are today's
: "returners."
1 began reflecting on the
years of my life and realized that
there were many pans of my
past that I would love to be able
to return to someone. Mistakes
made, bad choices, money
wasted and relationships lost
would all be returned and
replaced with good things that I
could enjoy.
Unfortunately there are no
"do overs" in life; we must live
with the consequences of our
actions.
The only hope that we have
is for forgiveness and
restoration; that somehow we
can be "made right" with the
cosmic powers of the universe.
This is where the "good
news" comes into play. There is
hope for a better today through a
restored life.
Have you ever gotten into
trouble? Maybe at school or at
home? Lied about something,
stole a pen from the office or
spread some kind of gossip?
We all have.
God recognizes that each and
every one of us has taken a
wrong turn, done something we
should not have or simply had a
bad attitude; and He loves us
anyway. The reality is that He
loves us way too much to leave
us in the trouble we are in.
Romans 3:23-25 "For all
have sinned; all fall short of
God's glorious standard. Yet
now God in his gracious
kindness declares us not guilty.
He has done this through Christ
Jesus, who has freed us by
taking away our sins. For God
sent Jesus to take the
punishment for our sins and to
satisfy God's anger against us.
We are made right with God
when we believe that Jesus shed
his blood, sacrificing his life for
us." NLT
The path to forgiveness and
restoration runs right through
the blood stained cross of Jesus
Christ.
You may not be able to
return your bad behavior or have
a "do over" on one of life's
downturns; but you can find
hope and strength in the arms of
God.
Faith both pleases God and
renews our hope.
Today I encourage you to
return the sour portions of your
life to God and receive the
sweetness of the life He has
planned for you.
Jesus gave us this promise in
Luke 4:18-19, "The Spirit of the
Lord is upon me, for he has
appointed me to preach Good
News to the poor. He has sent
me to proclaim that captives will
be released, that the blind will
see, that the downtrodden will
be freed from their oppressors,
and that the time of the Lord's
favor has come."
Is it your time for the Lord's
favor? It can be if you will only
believe in Jesus Christ and the
sacrifice He made for you.
Remember that Jesus loves
you. ..and so do I.

Why do we date?
Dating has been a custom in
our culture for a very long time.
It serves a very important part in
our courtship rituals.
The purpose of dating is to
provide a period of time for a
male and female to get to know
each other on a deeper level.
This is a time for discovering
their likes, dislike and "quirks"
as well as find out what they are
like on a spiritual and mental
level.
How long should we date?
How long is a very good
question indeed. The answer
will be different for every
couple. Most counselors and
pastors recommend a 2 year
period of courtship before
marriage. This is sufficient time
to get to really know them
without stretching the patience
of the couple too far.
Abstinence is always best!
This is a key question...and
one frequently asked: Why
should I wait? What is the big
deal about sex?
Sex was given by God to a
man and a woman in the

confines of the marriage
relationship.
Virginity is a precious once
in a lifetime gift - once it is
gone it is gone forever. You
cannot buy a new one so make
the best if what God has given
you.
In today's world extramarital
sex has become similar to
walking in an active minefield.
Maybe you will contract
something - maybe you will not.
Studies show that 1 out of 3 of
those under 24 who have
extramarital sex results in the
contraction of a STD. The 2-
year waiting time also provides
a buffer to give time for any
STD's to become evident in a
prospective mate.
Another big consideration is
an unplanned pregnancy. There
is no way to be 100 percent
protected from STD's or
pregnancy except
ABSTINENCE. Do not be
surprised if you are sexually
active and create a new life -
that is how it works.
There is another huge moral
issue to consider. Do you want
some guy/girl messing with your
future spouse? Then leave theirs
alone!
Some think that the more
they "do it" the more "adult"
they are. After all you have to
be mature to have sex - right?
Baloney! Real mature adults are
able to contain these passions
and exercise self control in order
to full develop the relationship.
Adults have control - dogs do
not.
There are many sexual
harvesters and predators out
there who only want one thing
to use your body, any way they
can, for a little while to get
some sort of short-term
satisfaction for themselves and
then THEY ARE GONE.
They will leave you feeling
used and dirty. Abstinence
keeps you clean and safe.
Protect yourself:
• Stay in large mixed sex groups
• Let your friends know what
your feelings are about
abstinence
• Tell them if you suddenly
begin to feel strange and ask a
couple of your close friends to
drive you home immediately or
if necessary to the hospital.
• Contact your parents
• Do not allow yourself to be in
bad situations like the only girl y
in a bunch of guys or alone with
a member of the opposite sex.
• Find a group of close friends
who will listen to you and
honestly care for you to hang^
with
How far is too far? Any
sexual activity is too far
regardless of the location or type
of activity.
Dating is a very exciting and
important time. The key to
successful dating is to focus on
communication and sharing and
not on physical gratification
Get to know them. Find oul if
they are "The One". Talk about
real life issues: Marriage, kids,
family, character, spiritual
issues, goals, expectation and
the hundreds of other issues you
need to know BEFORE the
relationship goes on to the next
step.
Dating can be fun; just
don't let someone steal your fun
forever!
Remember that God Loves
You!,and so do I.
Safety
(NU) - The brisk air, bright
days and snowy fun beckon mil-
lions of Americans to the out-
doors in the winter. Bui often a
very important part of your body
is left unprotected — your eyes.
Activities will be more enjoy-
able — and safer — if you pro-
tect your eyes from the sun, use
eye protection for active sports,
and keep eyewear tog-free.
Fogged-up glasses or goggles
can be a serious safety hazard.
Bui product-testing of Clarity

goggle or sunglass fogging for
long periods of time.
