Funds Being Raised For
New La Rosita Parish Hall
The community of La Rosita is in
the process of a fund-raising
campaign for a new Parish Hall.
The Capital campaign began on
Wednesday, Oct. 26. The new Santa
Rosa De Lima center will be 100
feet wide by 140 feet in length. The
total footage will be 14,000 square
feet.
The blueprints indicate the facili-
ty will have five classrooms, a
kitchen, an office, restro ms and
showers, and an activity area for
about 300 to 400 people The
projected cost is $175,000, with
most of the construction to be done
by local people to achieve cost-
effectiveness.
Mike Villarreal of La Rosita
commented, "This facility will
provide much needed services in
our community. A nutritional pro-
gram for the elderly, youth and
adult retreats, better C C.D.
classrooms, cultural events for the
community. Boy Scouts programs,
and a place for family social
gatherings are some of the desig-
nated benefits."
Villarreal concluded, "We have
been blessed to receive the seed of
our faith from our parents and
grandparents. We now have a way
to pass these cherished traditions
on to the youth and adult members
of our community."
Anyone seeking further informa-
tion about the new Parish Hall
should call 849-1633.
Rains Beneficial
To Starr County
Heavy rains that passed through
Starr County Friday night and
early Saturday morning provided
beneficial moisture for most of the
county.
District Conservationist Silvestre
Gonzalez said, "This is real good
moisture for the wintertime. It
might soften the effects of any hard
freezes. The moisture warms up
the ground."
Gonzalez said that the center
area of the county, north of the
airport, recorded an average of
four inches. The northeast area of
the county near La Gloria received
2Vz inches, while the Grulla-
Garciasville area received 2V2 to
three inches.
Gonzalez indicated that the
western areas of the county re-
ceived .75 to 1.5 inches of rain. He
indicated that Monday's brief
downpours brought up to .5 of an
inch in some places of Rio, but
brought little rain to most other
places
The Elder P Neie residence west
of Rio recorded 2.31 inches of rain
by the end of Monday, 2.10 of which
fell in the 24 hours ending at 7 a.m.
Saturday.
These classes are held on Wednes-
day, Friday, and Saturday. The
instructor for these classes is Mrs.
Dolores S. Gomez.
For the participants who did not
finish school nor obtain any kind of
education, the following classes are
available:
Enrichment programs in the
English language reaching the
students at different levels;
Enrichment programs in Math to
help the student to be knowl
edgeable in Math; Typing is
introduced as a new skill to the
students, thus enabling the student
to develop a new skill. Study
courses are available to those
students who wish to take the GED
exams, to help prepare students for
those exams.
The instructors for these classes
are Mrs. Dolores S. Gomez an<*
Nathaniel W. Fultz.
