Dear Mr. Silva,
The motto of the Jaycees is "Leadership Training
Through Community Service."
The RiO Grande City Jaycees have long been in-
volved in community service and the leadership
training of our members.
We are proud to recognize three of our active
members who are undertaking the responsibilities of
leadership in our county government. Benito Saenz,
Jr., our Internal Vice-president, is running for re-
election as Chairman of the Starr county Democratic
Party; Ricardo E. Recio. past president of the Rio
Grande City Jaycees, is running for Precinct chairman
of Precinct 3; and Jose Adarj iCoche> Garcia is run-
ning for Precinct chairman of Precinct 2.
We, the Rio Grande City Jaycees, encourage them in
their endeavors to serve our community in leadership
capacities. We are proud to have been a contributing
factor in their growth as leaders.
We hearby recognize them publicly and encourage
them in their expanding horizons of serving our
community.

Mexico for their annual field
trip on Thursday. April 6.

Miguel L. Ramirez, made
their first stop in Camargo
the site of the old Methodist
Church on the square.
They then proceeded to the
new church and parsonage
where they were greeted by
the Rev. Antonio Munoz and
members of the women's
circle there, including the
president. Mrs. Isaura
Rrxlriguez.
After a tour of the
buildings and grounds, a
service was held. Several
songs were sung, prayers
were shared, and the Rev.
Munoz spoke to the
gathering.
A printed program
featuring pictures of the old
church and of the new
building in the making told
the storv of the churches.
The setting is in Camargo, complete this project. The
Mexico, four miles south of First United Methodist

The five artistic classes
were named after song
titles. They were "Deep
Purple," "Somehwere Over
the Rainbow," "Ring of
Gold," "Green Tam-
bourine," and "Autumn
Leaves."
In Class I, Deep Purple,
Mrs. Arturo Garza received
the blue ribbon for first
place; Mrs. Humberto
Garza, second place; Mrs.
Ernesto Vela, third place
and Mrs. Eladio Carrera,
Honorable Mention.
In Class 2, Somewhere
Over the Rainbow, Mrs.
Herminio Saenz received the
first award, Mrs. Humberto
Garza second, and Mrs.
Juan Manuel Martinez third.
In Class 3, Band of Gold,
Mrs. Humberto Garza
received first place, Mrs.
Juan Manuel Martinez
second, and Mrs. Guadalupe
Villarreal third.
Class 4, Green Tam-
bourine, saw Mrs. Humberto
Garza and Mrs. Juan

building fell into the San

location away from the river
and more central to the
community, the church is
still not rebuilt. The
congregation is doing what it
can. but it is not able to

long way since that program

the Ruth Circle made a
contribution to the building
fund on Thursday to the Rev.
Munoz and to Mrs.
Rodriguez, who is also
treasurer of the church.
The ladies of the Camargo
church served a delicious
meal to their guests.

Students from La Union
Elementary participated
recently in the Phanta
Project sponsored by the
Bilingual Title VII Program.
Phanta Means "Para Hacer
Algo Necesito Tu Ayuda"
and it is to encourage
parental involvement. The
projects were made from
natural resources found in
and around Starr County.

The Creativity Award and
the Artistic Sweepstakes
Award both went to Mrs.
Humberto Garza for having
shown the most artistic
ability as well as having the
most first and second place
awards.
In the horticulture section
of the Flower Show, there
were eighteen specimen en-
tries. Of these Mrs. Eladio
Carrera received four blue
ribbons, Mrs. Delfino
Arriaga two blue ribbons,
Mrs. Arturo Garza two blue
ribbons, and Mrs. Juan
Manuel Martinez one blue
ribbon and two third places,
Mrs. Guadalupe Villarreal
and Miss CeUn Villarreal
each received a second place
ribbon.
The Arboreal Award for an
outstanding specimen of a
named twig or branch from
a tree or shrub was awarded
for the first time in the
history of the organization to
Mrs. Delfino Arriaga for her
speciman of a flowering
branch of Bauhinia
Variegata or orchid tree.
Of 79 plants exhibited for
competition, the following
received awards: Mrs.
Rodolfo Resendez, five firsts
and two seconds; Mrs. Jorge
Ramirez, five firsts; Mrs.
Juan Manuel Martinez, six
first, four seconds, one third,
and two honorable men-
tions; Mrs. Herminio Saenz,
three firsts; Mrs. Daniel
Villarreal, two seconds;
Mrs. Pablo Pena, Jr., two
'firsts and one second; Mrs.
Delfino Arriage, one first
and one honorable mention;
Mrs. Humberto Garza, five
firsts; Mrs. G.L. Villprreal,
two firsts; Mrs.
Eladio Carrera, nine firsts
and two thirds; and Mrs.
Roberto Martinez, five
firsts, three seconds, and one
third.
A beautiful Ficus Ben-
jamina tree owned by Mrs.
Roberto Martinez was rated
as the best horticultural
speciman in the show and
received the Award of Merit.
For having received the
most blue ribbons in the
horticultural division, Mrs.
Eladio Carrera was awarded
the Sweepstakes Ribbon for
Horticulture.
The Flower Show is an
annual event presented by
the Rio Grande City Garden
Club.

To obtain Form 4868,
"Application for Automatic
Extension of Time to File
U.S. Individual Income Tax
Return," taxpayers can visit
a local IRS office or
telephone IRS at the
"Federal Tax information"
telephone number listed in
the yellow pages of the
telephone directory.
When requesting an ex-
tension, the taxpayer makes
two copies of Form 4868. The
original is given or mailed to
IRS by midnight April 17.
The law provides that when
the deadline falls on a
weekend or holiday, the
return will be due on the next
workday.
The duplicate must be
attached to the tax return
when it if filed, according to
Robert M. McKeever, IRS
District Director. The
deadline for filing the return
and the duplicate copy of the
extension is June 15, even
though the original return
was due April 17.
"On the original cop of
Form 4868, the taxpayer
must estimate his or her tax
bill for 1977 and enclose the
full payment of tax,"
McKeever said.

Women have done their part in turning a
wilderness into a home, in malting America what
it is today. "She shared it all-the hprdship, the ^

sodbuster, wagon-driver, farmer, carpenter
weaver, economist, teacher, nurse-maker of

when the coyotes bayed around the cabin at
night. She was the strength to try again when the
crop failed, when the shop burned dowrn, when the
money ran out. She was a billion different women
who made this country home. And she is the one
woman, bearing your name...sharing the hard-
ship, the work and the glory. Whatever happens, $
she is there. Whatever gets done, she does her
part."
Mrs. Celeste Cantu Roach was honored at a
Miscellaneous Bridal Shower on Sunday, April 2,
from 5 until 8 p.m. at the House of Ralphel in Rio
Grande City. Hostesses for the shower were Mrs. %
J.M. Martinez, Jr., Mrs. Roberto Hinojosa, Mrs.
Humberto Munoz, Mrs. Lazaro Rodriguez, and
Narciso Cantu, Jr.
A gold medallion was found outside the Rio
Grande City Post Office on Tuesday, April 11. If
you can identify the medallion as yours, please £

A brand new little basketball player dribbled
into the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Ramiro Villegas
Omar Jaime Villegas scored two on Wednesday,
March 29, at McAllen General Hospital. The little
eager weighed in at 8 lbs., 1412 ozs. The family's -
home court is in Rio Grande City. "
The cast for "A View from the Bridge," to be
presented at Texas A&I University in Spanish and
English, has been announced by director Dr.
Joseph Rosenberg. The play will be presented in
SpanishJ^pril 21,22,23, and 27 and in English April
25-26, The play, one of Arthur Miller's better l|
known, will be presented at 8 each night in the
Little Theater. Jose Rodriguez of San Isidro has
been cast as First and second migration officer.
Four is the lucky number of Mr. and Mrs.
Guadalberto Alvarez! They have a brand new
baby boy born on 4-4-78. Guadalberto Jr. made his A
arrival at Ramirez-Gonzalez Family Clinic at 6:05
p.m. He weighed 5 lbs., 1 oz. The family lives in
Rio Grande City.
The South Texas Social Studies Association held
its seventh annual conference Friday ir the Texas
A&I University Student Union Building. "A Social
Studies Potpourri" was the title of the conference. f
After a welcome by A&I President Dr. Duane
Leach, Jerry Chiles of Burnet, president of the
association, conducted the business meeting. Also
a member of the executive committee is James
Shaffer of Rio Grande City. The day's activities
included talks on "Teacher-Student Involvement
in Politics," educational televison and the 0
classroom, three group sessions, and a caucus.
Mr. and Mrs. Roberto Morin are the proud
parents of a brand new baby girl. Their daughter
was born at 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 9. Melinda
Ann weighed 8 lbs., 1 oz. on her arrival at
Ramirez-Gonzalez Family Clinic. The Morins m
make their home in Rio Grande City.
Congratulations to Rosa Nelia Barrera, a Roma
High School student, who received an Honorable
Mention at the District One Act Play meet held in
Hebbronville on April 6. The title of the play was
"Sunday Costs Five Pesos" by Josephine Niggli. 4
The One Act Play director at Roma High School
this year is David D. Garza, and the Assistant
Director is Miss Zelda Garza.

Nutrition Program for the Elderly must have been
kneeling with them last week, for their prayers for
rain were answered.

Federation of Women's
Clubs has called its Clubs to
send accredited delegates
and members to the 100th
Annual Convention at the
Holiday Inn, 3135 N. Ex-
pressway, Brownsville,
April 25.
Each club and Federation
is entitled to send three
authorized delegates and
their alternates for voting
and introduction of motion
privileges. Each person
attending any one of these
functions shall pay
registration fee of
Dollar.
The registration desk will
open at 8:30 A.M. Tuesday,
