Octane Rating On Pumps Is Required
Vf."
W'&riM
DALLAS - Posting of octane
ratings of gasoline on the
pumps at retail service stations
is required by the Federal
Energy Administration, it was
re-emphasized today by Delbert
M. Fowler of Dallas, FEA
regional administrator.
"We have been receiving an
increasing number of inquiries
and complaints concerning the
posting of octane ratings, so
today I want to remind service
station operators they are in
violation and liable to a fine if
not in compliance," Fowler
declared.
"Under the regulations, a

sleeve style with stitched trim come in plaid and

sticker stating the octane rating
in numbers at least one-half
inch high must be prominently
displayed on each face of each
pump," Fowler said.
"Violation of this regulation
could result in a fine of up to
$2,500 per day for each
violation," Fowler pointed out.
Fowler said FEA does not
furnish the stickers. That is the
responsibility of the individual
service station operator.
"Violations will be in-
vestigated and may be referred
for prosecution," Fowler
declared.
Fowler said posting of the
octane rating is for the benefit
of the consumer. It allows the
car owner to know he is pur-
chasing the proper gasoline for
his car.
For the various models and
makes of each car, there are
individual variations in octane
requirements. Overbuying by
octane rating is a waste of the
consumer's money and a waste
of crude oil. More crude oil is
used in refining gasoline to a
higher octane level.

Dear Mr. Rodriguez:
I would like to set some facts
straight in regards to the
Herald's story on July 23.
When we were discussing the
Justice of the Peace and the
Attorney General's opinion I
felt that the man was a full time
Justice of the Peace because of
the salary, which was over
$8,000.00 annually. He was also
a full time school teacher. I
stated that I was not paid as
much. I am not paid as a full
time Justice of the Peace,
however, I am paid as a part-
time J.P. by the County. I do
operate out of my own home
and I handle all of my work as
J.P. after working hours at the
school.
In January, the Com-
missioners' Court felt that the
precinct did not warrant a full
time J.P. In prior years the J.P.
did not have enough cases and
had turned in a total of not over
$400.00 in 1974 and less than
$500.00 in 1973. Since I have
been in office I have over 300
cases in my docket and have
collected close to $4,000.00 for
the County and the State I have
enough work as a J.P. to
warrant full time employment,
and I am sure the Com-
missioners' Court will realize
this in time.
It has been a pleasure
meeting you. The community is
lucky to have you amongst us.
Welcome to Rio Grande City.
Yours truly,
Arturo Clarke, J.P. Pet. 4

To The Editor:
We have submitted this letter
without provoked to. The
reason? We are concerned
young citizens who are eligible
to vote and eligible to voice our
thoughts and needs.
It has been known to us all
that six deputies have resigned
with justifiable reasons known
to us all. Yet an elderly man,
Sheriff Alvarez is turning this
into a controversial matter,
(being that he said he fired
them).
Who will you believe? A man
who apparently has a closed
mind, or six young, bright,
eager youths, who have their
degrees in law enforcement and
worked hard at it.
Don't you think it's a waste
for the men "upstairs" to
deprive our youth of making
this corrupt town into a more
decent one?
