Court
wants to
fire Garcia
Starr County Judge Mario E.
Ramirez stalled an effort by
County Commissioner Amando
Pena and Hector Lozano to fire
or replace Manpower Director
Alfredo Garcia. Garcia was
named to the job after a motion
by Lozano earlier last year.
The court meeting in their
regular meeting here Monday
morning opened their session
with a request by Lozano to
approve a grant for some
$20,000 for Union Water Supply
and one from Pena for Falcon
Water Corporation for $15,000.
The grants would be used by the
two corporations to purchase
water rights to pump water
from the Rio Grande. The
money would come from
revenue sharing money. The
motion was tabled until the
requests can be put in writing
and into a budget form for
approval when the revenue
sharing money is budgeted for
the money received up till
January. The court has
$326,000.00 of un-budgeted
money from revenue sharing.
A meeting has been set for
Friday. April 5 at 1 p.m. when a
budget will be presented.
Members of the fire department
and others requesting money
under the revenue sharing
program are urged to attend
The court approved a judges
request for time to work out a
budget with the revenue
sharing money. The com-
missioners will present their
budgets to the judge this Frisay
and he will with the help of the
assistant auditor Heberto
Barrera work out a form
budget.
The matter of the manpower
program then came up before
the court.
Commissioner Hector Lozano
moved that a three member
committee be set up to screen
applicants for manpower
programs now operating in
Starr County.
"What would this committee
do?" asked judge Ramirez.
"Well, they would screen «!!
applicants," answered Ixizano.
"We hired a director (Alfredo
Garcia) for that job and we
gave him authority to hire his
personnel," Ramirez said.
"This committee would work
with the South Texas
Development Council to screen
applicants," Lozano said.
