Reyna, 11 yrs. old 6th grade
student at La Union Elemen-
tary School won 1st plycp in
"Declamation" in the Sub Jun-
ior Division of the UIL events
of the Rio Grande Independent
School District. Emelina has
obtained a high average in her
scholastic record. She is ac-
tive in sports and is a girl
scout member. She is the daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrosio
Reyna of La Casita.
WINNER -- Teodoro Villa-
rreal Jr. 5th grade student at
La Union Elementary School
won 1st place in "Spelling" in
the Sub-Junior division of the
UIL events in the Rio Grande
Independent School District.
Teodoro has obtained a high
average in his scholastic re-
cord. He is active in sports.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Teodoro Villarreal of La Casi-
ta.
MRS. PEREZ PRESENTS BEAUTY PROGRAM — Mrs. Joe Perez
hosted a meeting of the Florence J. Scott Study Club last Thursday
and presented a program on beauty care to the members. The
meeting was held in Roma. With Beauty Advisor Elsie Villarreal
assisting her, Mrs. Perez demonstrated beauty care techniques on
Mrs. Francisco Garza and Mrs. Ross LaGrange.
Las Comas draws top
money for Beefmaster
The First Annual Foundation
Beefmaster Association sale
was held last Saturday evening
with a house full and plenty of
buyers on hand at Tri-County
Stock Yard.
Consignors of the beefmaster
cattle were Jose L. Gonzalezof
the 33 Ranch, Nicasio Guerra
of N. Guerra, Humberto Mu-
noz of Las Comas Ranch, Dr.
M. Ramirez of Ramirez Ranch,
and Jose A. Mendoza of the
Mendoza Ranch.
Some 32 head of a top quali-
ty herd of 200 head were put up
for the first sale of Beefmast-
er Cattle in the County.
Top money went for a 1,180
pound bull owned by Las Comas
Ranch. The two year old bull
sold for $880.00. The second
highest money paid for Beef-
master cattle Saturday went
for a two year old bull that
tipped the scales at 1,205 al-
so owned by Las Comas. The
vounp working bull went for
$825.00.
The 32 hea'i were in range
workinc condition and all had
been tested for fertility. Heif-
ers had their two year preg-
nancy test.
Chester Cotter operated the
sale. He is the owner and gen-
eral manager of the Tri-County
Stock Yard facility.

DISTRICT CONVENTION DELEGATES — The South Texas District of the Texas Federa-
tion of Women's Clubs held their spring convention at the Hamilton Hotel in Laredo last
Friday. Representing Rio Grande City at the convention were Mrs. Ricardo Gutierrez,
Mrs. James Peterson, Mrs. Francisco Garza, Mrs. Kenneth Anderson, and Mrs. Lucin-
da Hinojosa of the Florence J. Scott Study Club, Mrs. A.V. Peterson, Mrs. Alex Hino-
josa, and Mrs. Felipe V. Ramon of the Rio Grande City Woman's Club. The are pic-
tured with Mrc. A.C. Hughes, state president, and Mrs. W.W. Zimmerman, district
president.
