A quorum of the House was an-
nounced present.
The Invocation was offered by
Chaplain Clinton Kersey, as follows:
"Our Heavenly Father, we pray
that Thou would never forsake us.
We are mindful this day that Thou
doest know our every deed, our ac-
tions, even the secrets of our hearts.
Help us to fight the good fight.
In the midst of things that give us
great concern, may we turn to Thee
for comfort. Give each one the
strength and courage needed for this
day's labor. Forgive our mistakes and
shortcomings toward Thee. We pray
in Jesus' Name. Amen."
TO EXTEND CONGRATULATIONS
TO THE HONORABLE JOE AL-
LEN ON HIS BIRTHDAY
Mr. Bass of Harris offered the fol-
lowing resolution:
H. S. R. No. 44
Whereas, If there's such a thing as
a lucky number, it's really turned up
this year for a Member of this Housewho will be age 27 on January 27,
in this year of 1967; and
Whereas, If that isn't enough of
an omen-with the number "7" ap-
pearing three times in a row, he can
even count seven letters in his initials
and name-J. H. Allen; and
Whereas, As though to prove that
there is something in a lucky num-
bar, our friend "Joe" began serving
his first term in the Texas House of
Representatives in 1967, coming from
Baytown (spelled with seven letters);
and
Whereas, This lucky, lucky col-
league has other evidence of his good
fortune--a beautiful, vivacious wife,
Billye, and a real lifetime luck piece
in his adorable, five-month-old baby
daughter, Sydney Lisa, and both are
in Austin to help celebrate his birth-
day; and
Whereas, He also has a host of
friends in strictly the right circles;
he attended Lee College and the Uni-
versity of Houston and was elected
President of the Young Democrats at
both schools; and
Whereas, It seems almost a waste
of good wishes to hope that he has
good luck on his birthday tomorrow;
nevertheless, the Members of this
House wish to join in the celebration
of his 27th Birthday Anniversary on
Friday, January 27; now, therefore,
be it
Resolved, That the House of Repre-
sentatives of the 60th Legislature ex-
tend congratulations to Joe Allen and
wish him many more such fortuitous
occasions; and, be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this Re-
solution, under the Seal of the House
of Representatives, be prepared for
Representative Allen as a memento
of his lucky birthday and in token
of the esteem of his colleagues and
friends.
Signed: Bass of Harris, Clark of
Harris, Vickery, Whatley, Archer,
Graves, Braun, Cruz of Harris, Dug-
gan, Swanson, Johnson of Harris,
Kohler, Cummings, Vance, Ogg, Floyd
of Harris.
The resolution was adopted unani-
mously.209
