Mr. Fleming offered the following resolution:
H. S. R. No. 246, In Memory of the Honorable Judge S. L. Ramsey.
Whereas, On Sunday, May 29, 1949, in the City of Henderson, the
State of Texas suffered the loss of one of its outstanding Statesmen
and Jurist, the Honorable Judge S. L. Ramsey; and
Whereas, The passing of this distinguished and much loved gentle-
man will be felt throughout the State of Texas and particularly in
Rusk County where his host of friends will miss his faithful and
loyal service and friendship; and
Whereas, Judge Ramsey served as Representative in the Texas
Legislature from 1904 to 1908. For twenty-three years he published
the "Henderson Times" and in 1928 was elected County Judge, serv-
ing until 1934. In 1942 he was elected City Tax Collector and served
until ill health forced his retirement in 1946; and
Whereas, The Legislature of Texas wishes to express its sincerest
sympathy to the family and many friends of Judge Ramsey in their
great sorrow; and
Whereas, Judge Ramsey is survived by two sons, Sid Ramsey of
Overton and Harry C. (Jack) Ramsey of Henderson; one daughter,
Mrs. George C. McKinney, of Salem, Oregon; three brothers, Charles
R. Ramsey, Center; Dr. W. A. Ramsey, Joaquin; Jack Ramsey,
Joaquin, and one sister, Mrs. A. O. Rider, of Joaquin; now there-
fore, be it
Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be mailed to the sur-
viving members of the family of the deceased and that when the
House of Representatives adjourns today that it do so in memory
of and as a tribute to the Honorable S. L. Ramsey.
