One of the latest of the city's
improvements and one in which
every citizen takes pardonable

is obtained from a splendid ar-

LAW GOVERNING WEIGHERS.
J. O IS. S7VYITH,
Patronage
The following brief statement | WESTON',
of the new law governing public
;st to
Ga-
zkttk who have occasion to sell
or buy produce in the open mar-
ket. The new law goes into effect
August 1st.
The law provides, lirst, for the
election of one or more public
weighers for each justice's pre-
cinct, and abolishes the office of
county public weigher. Second,
the price for weighing cotton re-
mains at ten cents per bale and
not more than tifteen cents per
bale for yardage, and reduces the
price of weighing grain, hay, etc.,
to live cent's nev wagon load.
Third, it seeks to compel all
weighing to be done by public
weighers. Fourth, it does not af-
fect the term of office of the
county weighers elected at the
last general election; but they
must conform to the prices fixed
by the new law after August ^.'>th
the date which the new law takes
effect,
