On the Beach Besides Himself—
A Good Thing and Me Will
Try It Again.
Representative John 11. Smith
"The Little Giaut of Aleo," who
made mare speeches, more fuss and
got more' vote9 than any man who
has been elected to the legislature
from Collin county in many moon?,
was in thp city Saturday in attend-
ance upon the corne -stone lay-
ing.
While John R. beat the Gazette
editor fori the legislature—all of
which he shouldn't have done—still
deep downi and entwined in our
heart we loye him still.
John wenfc to the legislature with
the biggest personal platform of
any man who was ever elected to
thai august iWuy—am! ..
all the platform back with hi n just
like he carried it.
He says that he was bei-vig'-d and
almost seduced by the rail roads to
give him free passes, hu. 'nary a
free pass did he take. John is real-
i !y a bigger dunce than the people
' thought he was. A man that is too
honest to take a railroad pass, is
too honest to go to the Texas leg-
islature.
John says that he soon found out :
that he wasn't the only "pebble on I
the heach," but there were others
He likes the legislature, that he j
:ias been true to the people who ,
elected him, and in the Gazettes
opinion of him he has got too good :
a thing to "turn loose" 'vit will
tackle it again.
There is one thing we like a'lout
John R. Smith—he is honest, open-
hearted and liberal.
May his shadow never grow
less.
