The True Issues.
The animus of the ring to.
ward H. C. Mack springs main-
ly from his attacks upon the
men who have been getting the
interest on the school money
unlawfully. These men talk
loudly about thechildrena grass
in the west and tell how it ough t j
not to be eat up by cattle'
kings and yet act as though it
was all right for them
to pocket the interest on the
county school money. How
does the children's grass in the
west happen to be so much
more sacred thun the children's
money here at home. All this
"baby grass" talk is a humbug
intended to divert the
public mind from the true is-
sues. The men who talk lease
law the loudest, don't care a tig
for schools—in fact care noth-
ing for any tiling or anybody !
but themselves. And Muse, I
their candidate, was never |
heard of as either a lease grass '
or free grass man until he was
put into the race by his grooiu-
ers. His friends, in circulating
his petitions put him squarely
on the free grass platform in
some localities, and meu signed
it for that reasou. The people
are being humbugged by this
school money crowd and their
chronic office hunting candidate
for representative.
Fbkk Gkass Means that the
poor man is to have the same
rights in Texas he has always
had. Lease Law means that
they are to be denied their
rights for the benefit of the rich
cattle lueu.

A few common pi ice remarks
on the tariff again. A high pro-
tective tariff enriches the few
and impoverishes the many. It
raises the wages, and, at the
same time,the expense of living
of artisans of special depart-
ments, while it does not raise
the wages but increases the ex-
pense of the general laborer,
carpenters, masons, painters,
fishermen, farmers ami all oth-
