World War 1 Letter
WORLD WAR I LETTER

This letter was written by Ora C. Chandler to Mrs. Edith Chandler of Seminole,
Oklahoma on May 28, 1918. The letter was transcribed without any corrections
to the author's spelling and grammatical errors. I would like to thank the
anonymous donor for mailing this letter to DGS.

May 28, 1918
Mrs. Edith Chandler my dear wife I seat my self to drop you a few lines
to let you know that I got to the Camps safe. I got heare Monday neight at 3:30,
and they met us at the Depot in a big truck and taken us to the camps Monday
neight. Well Edith I stood the examination just fine. They are giving me a
treatment now so I wont catch any diseases. The treatment is pretty bad but I
am in the Bull Pen now. They have got about 300 of us boys in the Bull Pen and
is quaranteened for 14 days. We cant get out to town are no places to go. Wish
you was heare with me so we could talk to each other. I sure miss my wife but I
cant help it. I would like to bring you to the camps but they wont allow me to
bring you to camps but you can com to town and stay and see me once and a
while. You be about ready in ten days to com to town. I think I will be out from
under the quaranteened by this time and we will try to get you a place to stay. I
hope I can and if you can't stay you can go back but I want to see you so bad
and I am going to get you to com and see me. Well Edith, I am getting along just
fine. But I don't like the Army much. But the Army is not half as bad as lots of the
boys sais it is. We are hurting pretty bad now for we as quaranteed now and
cant go aney places.
Well Edith yesterday I taken out insurance for $10.00 and had it made
to you if I get killed you get $10,000 dollars. Well I will close for this time hoping
to heare from you soon, from O. C. Chandler to farming wife Edith Chandler.
Tell the folks hello for me for I haven't got time to rite to all. Tell my
folks all hello for me and your folks and when I get more time, I will rite more.
Edith read this to dad if you can. My arm is so sor that I cant rite much. Edith if
you rite and I don't ansur dot ge unesey for I mite move at aney time but ansur
soon as possible. So good to my sweet wife.
