THE OLD CONFEDERATE CEMETERY
"GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN"
Abstracted by: Shari L. Degan, Donald Whitsitt, Harold Williams, Columbus Strength family, and
the Leslie S. Talifaferro family.
The Old Confederate Cemetery is an abandoned Dallas County cemetery located in the 3900
block of Roberts Ave. The cemetery is located east of Oakland Cemetery and is adjacent to Mt.
Auburn Cemetery. One Confederate States of America headstone remains in the cemetery.
Oakland Cemetery maintains the burial cards for this cemetery. The burial cards contain the
name, date of birth if known, date of death, military unit, and plot number. DGS abstractors
thoroughly researched the microfilm rolls of the Texas Confederate Pension Records located on
the eighth floor of the Dallas Public Library. The Texas Confederate Pension Records have
detailed information regarding date of birth, place of birth, military unit, spousal information and
medical information. A copy of the pension file can be ordered from the Texas State Archives
website: http: //link. tsl. state. tx.us/c/compt/pension html
A check of the Dallas Times Herald newspaper yielded only three obituaries for the
Confederates.' The obituaries appear at the end of this article.Tile DWid~ JUUWcII 57
