Nixon . . the man who played a major part several years
ago in destroying Hiss.
Mr. Nixon, in a bitter post-election farewell to public life a
few days ago, had managed to leave a bad public taste with
an ill-tempered and ill-timed blast at the newspapermen who
had covered his campaign.
But tha ABC TV network tooped Nixon's own performance in
bad taste by putting convicted-traitor Alger Hiss on a net-
work program designed to dramatise Nixon's political obituary
• . . and by contrast, Richard Nixon came out looking down-
right good.
Snow blankets eastern Panhandle
area early Saturday morning

A brisk snowfall early Sat-
urday morning deposited
more than an inch of snow in
Canadian, and up to three and
four inches in rural areas of
the county.
Huston Stickley, who lives
in the southeast corner of the
county near Reydon, reports a
4 • inch snowfall. About the
same amount was reported in
the Briscoe area, southwest of
Canadian . . . and Harry
Haines, in the Locust Grove
area in Lipscomb county, fif-
teen miles north of town, re-
ported four inches of snow-
fall.

in Hanby trial
Trial of Doyle M. Hanby on
felony charges of driving
while intoxicated was sched-
uled for Wednesday (Novem-
ber 21) in district court here.
A jury panel was called and
jurors chosen for the case in
District Court Monday morn-
ing. but District Judge Lewis
M. Goodrich granted a defense
request for continuance at
noon Monday and ordered jur-
ors to return for the trial at
10 o'clock Wednesday morn-
inp.
Tho case against Hanbv,
filed last January, has al-
ready been subject to several
continuances by the court.
On the jurv to hear the
trial are J. J. Bussard, Warren
Linctg. Ted Rogers, J. C. Cain,

apply for charter Thursday

A Canadian Junior Cham-
ber of Commerce was formal-
ly organized last Thursday
night, and Gilbert Dickens
has been elected as first pres-
ident of the JayCees here.
Twenty-eight names were
on the charter application
filed with the National Jay-
Cee organization following
Thursday night's coffee-and-
doughnuts session at EJ's
Cafe. The Pampa Junior
Chamber of Commerce is the
sponsoring organization, and
members of that group have
been meeting with the Cana-
dian leaders for the past three
weeks.
Among the Pampa JayCees
who have been leading the
organizational effort here were
A. J. Carrubi, Pampa JayCee
president; Gene Hollar, state
JayCee vice-president; Bennie
Shackelford, Jim Christy, Ed-
die Chattin, Doyle Green, and
R. E. McDonald, state direc-
tor.
Canadian JayCees clected
City Manager James Morgan
as first vice-president of their
organization; Jim Reid as
second vice-president; Charles
Cole secretary and Jerry John-
son treasurer.
Serving with these officers
on the board of directors will
be Warren Hill, Don Schaef,
and Tom Hobdy.
Don Schaef was elected as
director of inter-club relations.
