Funeral services for John Wheeler
conducted here Sunday afternoon
Funeral services for John
Wheeler, 70, long-time resi-
dent of Canadian, were con-
ducted Sunday afternoon at
the First Baptist Church in
Canadian, with Sanford Cole
in charge of the rites, assist-
ed by Rev. Joe Vernon, pastor
of the church.
Burial was in the Canadian
cemetery.
Mr. Wheeler died at his
41 Hereford bulls
offered at Buffalo
on February 12
The 21st annual sale of the
Harper County Purebred Here-
ford Breeders association will
be held in Buffalo on Wed-
nesday. February 14. The sale
will feature 41 registered
Hereford bulls from the tops
of the herds of seven con-
signors.
The sale will be held in
the purebred livestock pavil-
ion on the fairgrounds at the
west side of Buffalo. The
building is heated so that it
is comfortable in any kind of
weather.
Catalogs may be obtained
by writing Max Barth jr.. as-
sociation secretary and Harp-
er county agent, at Buffalo.
The bulls in this offering
were carefully selected by a
sifting committee appointed
annually by the association
officers. All bulls are clean-
pedigreed individuals and
free from dwarfism, as far as
can be ascertained.
Every animal has been test-
ed or vaccinated against
Bang's disease and TB. Cer-
tificates are furnished. Sale
starts at 1 o'clock. Judging
for sale order will begin at
9:30 a. m.
Mr. and Mrs. John Cham-
bers and Mr. and Mrs. Hub
McQuidd.v were in Fort Worth
for the Stock Show early this
week.

ness.
John Calvin Wheeler was
born in Houston, Missouri, on
May 2, 1891. He moved to
western Oklahoma in 1914,
and came to Canadian in
1920. After some years away
from here, the family return-
ed to Canadian in 1935 and
had lived here since that
time. Mr. Wheeler was a ma-
son and a carpenter.
Surviving him are his wife;
one daughter, Mrs. T. L. (Pat-
sy) Murphy of Pampa; four
sons, Elmo and Tony of Ca-
nadian, Paul of El Centro,
California, and Clyce, who is
now in Tunisia, North Africa;
one brother, Ben Wheeler of
Vinita, Oklahoma; and three
sisters, Mrs. Alice Moon of
Houston, Missouri; Mrs. Molly
Burks of Fullerton, California;
and Mrs. Jess Richardson of
Reydon, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers at the funeral
rites were Mr. Wheeler's neph-
ews, Joe and Dow Wheeler of
Canadian, Bobby Richards of
Pampa, Paul and Pete Burks
of Reydon and Dillard Wheel-
er of Reydon.
Rodeo Queen Sue Hext will ride
in Fort Worth Show arena Feb. 3
Miss Sue Hext, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Hext, will
represent Canadian in the
Southwest Exposition and Fat
Stock Show in Fort Worth
this weekend.
Sue, who is being sponsored
jointly by the Chamber of
Commerce, the Canadian Rop-
ing Club and the Canadian
Riding Club will ride in the
2 o'clock performance of the
show on February 3, being
introduced in the grand entry
as Canadian's Cowgirl Sweet-
heart.
Sue reigned during last
Summer's Fourth of July Ro-
deo in Canadian as Rodeo
Queen and has been an ac-
tive member of the Junior
Riding Club here.
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Burrus
plan to accompany the Hext
family to Fort Worth for the
show.
