tary Park last Friday night.

a 3 to 2 decision to tighten
their grip on first place in
the standings.
It was a story-book ending
to a game that had featured
hair-breadth play all the way.
Goodman held the Yankees
to a single base hit but alert
Yankee base runners had cap-
italized on Cardinal miscues
in the first and fourth innings
to score runs ... and they
led 2 to 0 going into the last
of the fourth. Mike Miller,
reaching first on a single in
the opening frame, stretched
it into a run when the Cardin-
al right fielder let the bounc-
ing grounder slip past him
and had trouble coming up
with the ball. Johnny Walker
made three baw in the
fourth when the centpr fj^idpr
misjudged his towering fly
*all. and reached home when
D^an Rowley fired a hard
"rounder which bounced off
the shortstop's glove.
The Cardinals scored in the
attorn of the fourth when
Price singled and came home
when Goodman's infield
prounder went, through the
shortston's legs; and tied up
the ball gamp in the fifth
when Gary Filler singled and

Park to hold their fas.t pace in
league play.
Gary Filler pitched for the
Cardinals, giving up only one
base hit.
Charlie Ortega pitched four
and one-third innings for the
Dodgers, giving up five runs
on five hits; and Hodges fin-
ished the game.
