A man dressed as a clown bends down over her as if to give her a kiss. He is holding back curtains with his left hand. The woman has short, blonde hair and wears a white, tutu style dress. Notes

In Ruggero Leoncavallo’s 1892 opera “Pagliacci”, the character Canio plays a clown, “Pagliacco”, in a traveling troupe of actors. His wife, Nedda, who is in love with another man, plays the role of “Columbina” in the troupe’s shows. After catching Nedda and her lover, Silvio, Canio stabs Nedda to death on stage during a performance.
