ate, by the Sergeant-at-Arras, under the warrant of the President,

Senate, aad ia tha crowd, at the inatant of the adjournment of
the twoHoaaaa ofCongreaa, on Satarday hut. The President
stated tothe accused tha charge en whtcn ha waa arrested, aad
aaked what he had to say in defence. Mr. Lubbock addressed
the Senate in explanation of the circumstances.
On motion of Mr. Russell, it waa ordered, that F. R. Lubbock
be 1 lonoraWy discharged from hb orrost.
The Sergeant-at-Arms reported that Thomos W. Ward had
locked himself up in his house, and refused to be arrested or
seen. «.
On motion of Mr. Lester, the Senate adjourned till 3 o'clock,
P. M.

The House met at the adjourned hour—the President in the
Chair.
Thomas W. Ward was brought to the bar of the Senate br
the Sergeant-at'Armn, upon a charge of contempt, for making
an assault on Francis H. Lubbock, in the gallery of the Capitol*
on Saturday last, at the time of adjournment of the two Houses
of Congreso. The President informed the accused of the chargc
and asked what he had to say in hb defence. Mr. Ward ad-
dressed the Smote in explanation of the circumstance* attend-
ing the occurrence, in which he denied having "locked himself
up, and refused to be arrested."
A debate ensued, on a motion of Mr. Wilson to discharge
Mr. Ward, when, on' motion of Mr. Everitt, it was
